Angels' C.J. Cron: Headed to DL with broken hand

Cron suffered a fractured left hand in Friday's game against the Orioles and is ticketed for the 15-day DL, the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher reports.

He was hit on the hand by a pitch from Mike Wright during Friday's contest and was replaced by Jefry Marte at first base. The Angels hardly have any competent hitters surrounding Mike Trout when everyone is healthy, and now the team is a bit banged up. Albert Pujols is available to play some first base, but Marte also figures to get some starts there while Cron is out. Look for the team to officially place him on the DL either Friday night or prior to Saturday's game.

Angels' C.J. Cron: Hammers two home runs Tuesday

Cron went 2-for-4 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI against the Rays on Tuesday.

Cron had a solo shot off Jake Odorizzi during a four-run second and a three-run drive against Enny Romero in a six-run ninth, his second multi-homer game in four days. The first baseman is off to a ridiculous start in July, going 11-for-24 with five homers, 13 RBI and eight runs scored.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Out of Monday's lineup

Calhoun is out of the lineup Monday against the Rays.

Calhoun will get just his second day off of the regular season, as he has made 81 starts in 82 games for the Angels so far this year. With Monday being the second of back-to-back day games for the Halos, the timing was appropriate for a maintenance day. Shane Robinson will draw the start in right field in his stead.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Indians' Carlos Santana: Collects two hits in Sunday's loss

Santana went 2-for-4 with a double and scored the Indians' only run in Sunday's drubbing at the hands of the Blue Jays.

He was the only Cleveland hitter to have any real success against J.A. Happ. Santana's now begun July with three straight two-hit games, boosting his slash line on the season to .245/.342/.480.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Heating up in Double-A New Hampshire

Tellez had himself a day for Double-A New Hampshire, going 5-for-7 with three extra-base hits and five RBI in Saturday's doubleheader against Binghamton.

The Blue Jays' No. 8 prospect went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Game 1, then tacked on four more RBI while finishing a triple short of the cycle in the nightcap. After a slow start in Double-A, Tellez is now riding a nine-game hitting streak. The 21-year-old first baseman has gone 15-for-30 (.500) with three home runs and 11 RBI over that stretch.

  • Matt McBride 1B | PHI

Athletics' Matt McBride: Recalled from Triple-A, will start Sunday

McBride was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. He'll start at catcher in the Athletics' game against the Pirates and bat eighth in the order.

McBride will assume the 25-man roster spot of Josh Phegley (knee), who was placed on the DL in a corresponding move. Phegley is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine the extent of his strained right knee, and if surgery is deemed necessary, McBride could be up with the big club for an extended period. However, don't look for McBride to see regular at-bats, as he'll only be getting the nod behind the plate Sunday over the lefty-hitting Stephen Vogt due to southpaw Francisco Liriano starting for the Pirates.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Angels' C.J. Cron: Explodes with two homers, six hits Saturday

Cron was a major contributor in the 21-run assault against the Red Sox on Saturday, going 6-for-6 with two homers, a double and five RBI.

Cron has been quietly productive for most of the season, but has let loose in the first two games of July, notching three homers and nine RBI over that span. The former first-round pick should be considered an option for those looking to grab cheap power at first base, as he is slashing .287/.340/.473 with nine homers and a .186 ISO through 71 games.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Indians' Carlos Santana: Homers for second straight game Saturday

Santana hit his second homer in as many days -- and 18th on the season -- as part of a 2-for-3 day Saturday versus the Blue Jays that also included a walk.

The veteran slugger's season line is now up to .242/.340/.477 following the performance, and he also has back-to-back multi-hit efforts. Santana is also just one round-tripper away from equaling his 2015 total in that category, although it notably took him 550 at-bats to accomplish that feat last season.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Angels' C.J. Cron: Blasts grand slam in Friday defeat

Cron went 2-for-5 with a grand slam in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Cron made Steven Wright pay for loading them up in the sixth, blasting a 3-2 pitch 423 feet over the Green Monster. It extended the 26-year-old's hitting streak to four games, a stretch that's included a trio of multi-hit efforts. It was only his second homer since June 1 but outside of his long-ball drought, Cron was outstanding last month. He finished with a .303/.361/.470 line over 66 at-bats, and raised his average 15 points.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Indians' Carlos Santana: Wins marathon game with solo shot in 19th inning

Santana went 2-for-8 with a double, go-ahead, 19th-inning solo homer, walk and two runs in Friday's 2-1 victory.

The veteran slugger mercifully put an end to the marathon contest with a shot off infielder Darwin Barney in the 19th inning that eventually sent the weary Indians to their 14th consecutive victory. Santana has now hit safely in four of the last five contests, and seven of his last nine.
