  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Launches 19th home run

Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 11-7 loss to the Nationals.

Torkelson got the scoring started for Detroit in the first inning with his 19th home run of the season. It also bumped the first baseman up to 55 RBI, which is good for second on the team behind All-Star starter Riley Greene's 69. Torkelson is only batting .234, and he's striking out a little more than 23 percent of the time, but he delivers his fantasy value from his ability to put the ball over the wall and drive in runs.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Clubs eighth long ball in win

Schanuel went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Thursday's 5-1 win over Atlanta.

The 23-year-old first baseman clubbed his eighth long ball of the season with a second-inning shot off Atlanta right-hander Bryce Elder. Schanuel has settled in as the Angels' everyday man at the cold corner this year, starting 83 of the team's first 86 games. Over his last 188 plate appearances, Schanuel is slashing .286/.382/.460 with six homers, 10 doubles, 22 RBI and two stolen bases.

  • C.J. Kayfus 1B | CLE

Guardians' C.J. Kayfus: Removed with knee contusion

Kayfus was removed from Thursday's game with Triple-A Columbus due to a knee contusion, SI.com reports.

Kayfus suffered the injury in a rundown early in Thursday's game and left immediately. Despite the scare, his exit was deemed precautionary, and he appears to have avoided a serious issue. Kayfus has had an impressive year, hitting .295/.384/.565 across 224 plate appearances and could be ready for his big-league debut at some point this summer.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | CHW

Rays' Curtis Mead: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rays optioned Mead to Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

With Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) returning from the 60-day IL on Thursday, Mead will end up as the odd man out of a spot in the Rays' infield unit. The 24-year-old slashed .225/.320/.342 with eight RBI and 14 runs scored through 128 plate appearances during his time in the majors, and he'll now serve as organizational depth at Triple-A.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Out of lineup Thursday

Goldschmidt is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

Goldschmidt had started at first base in five of the past six contests for the Yankees, but he'll grab a seat for Thursday's series finale. Ben Rice is handling first base and batting second.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Rangers' Jake Burger: Returns as DH

Burger went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 6-0 win over Baltimore.

Burger was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and served as the designated hitter, while Josh Smith handled first base. He's likely to resume playing first base, as Smith may be needed to cover third base after the Rangers optioned Josh Jung to the minors Wednesday.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Productive in twin bill

Torkelson went 3-for-8 with a home run, a double, a walk, two RBI and three runs scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Torkelson smacked a solo homer in Game 1 and got the Tigers on the board with an RBI double in the fourth inning of Game 2. The first baseman has now hit safely in seven of his past eight games, a stretch that includes five extra-base hits, four RBI and eight runs scored. For the season, he's slashing .234/.336/.485 with 18 home runs, 52 RBI, 49 runs scored and one stolen base across 342 plate appearances.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Rangers' Jake Burger: Brought back from IL

The Rangers reinstated Burger (oblique) from the 10-day injured list. He'll start at designated hitter and bat seventh Wednesday against the Orioles.

Burger began a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Frisco and 1-for-3 with a walk while playing seven innings at first base, and the Rangers evidently came away convinced that the 29-year-old was healthy enough to rejoin the big club. Since he was on the shelf for only about a week and a half due to the left oblique strain, Burger should be ready to reclaim an everyday role right away for the Rangers. Though he'll be used at DH in his first game back from the IL, Burger could end up settling in at first base if the Rangers elect to move super-utility man Josh Smith over to third base as a replacement for the struggling Josh Jung, who was demoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

  • Ty France 1B | TOR

Twins' Ty France: Exiting starting nine Wednesday

France is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

France has served as the Twins' everyday first baseman throughout the season, but his stranglehold on that role could be slipping a bit. He'll hit the bench for the second time in the five games while he's slashed just .185/.241/.315 over a stretch of 14 contests dating back to June 14. Kody Clemens will step in for France at first base and will bat eighth.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | CHW

Rays' Curtis Mead: Back on bench Wednesday

Mead is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Mead had made three starts at three different infield spots over each of the last three games, but he'll hit the bench Wednesday while Jonathan Aranda plays first base, Brandon Lowe covers second and Junior Caminero handles third. Those three players will be the primary starters at those positions against right-handed pitching, though Mead will likely replace one of the three in the lineup when the Rays face lefties.
