An MRI on Guerrero's right knee showed no structural damage, and he might be available off the bench Thursday against the Yankees, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Guerrero was scratched from the Blue Jays' lineup Wednesday -- and is not starting Thursday -- because of lingering right knee discomfort, but this latest round of imaging scans has confirmed he is merely dealing with inflammation and won't require an extended break. Spencer Horwitz will get the start at first base in Thursday's series finale at Yankee Stadium, but it sounds like Guerrero could be a full-go for the Jays' three-game weekend set versus Tampa Bay.

Horwitz is playing first base and batting sixth Thursday against the Yankees.

It's the second straight start for Horwitz, who filled the DH role Wednesday after Vladimir Guerrero (knee) was scratched and tallied three RBI as part of a 6-1 victory. The 25-year-old has batted .286/.375/.429 across his first 40 major-league plate appearances this season with Toronto and could see more opportunities if Guerrero requires an extended absence.

Guerrero was scratched from the lineup Wednesday due to right knee discomfort and promptly sent for an MRI, the results of which are still being evaluated. Schanuel is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Rays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

It looks to be a routine day off for Schanuel, who had started each of the previous four contests. Brandon Drury is sliding over to first base while David Fletcher gets a start at second.

Right knee soreness caused Guerrero to be scratched from the Jays' lineup ahead of Wednesday's contest. The results of Guerrero's MRI are expected to come back Thursday prior to Toronto's game against the Yankees.

Dalbec went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers.

Dalbec's homer, a 427-foot blast off Jon Gray in the second inning, was his first with the Red Sox in nearly a full calendar year. The 28-year-old Dalbec has been swinging the bat well since he was recalled from Triple-A on Saturday, going 6-for-14 with three extra-base hits in four games. He should continue to see fairly regular time at first base down the stretch, with Triston Casas (shoulder) likely out for the year.

This knee discomfort has been a lingering issue for Guerrero, but manager John Schneider said it's only soreness -- nothing structural -- and he is considered day-to-day. The 24-year-old slugger was slated to serve as the Blue Jays' designated hitter Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. Spencer Horwitz will now fill that role as Cavan Biggio covers first base and Whit Merrifield enters the lineup at second base.

Mountcastle was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sept. 17, with left AC joint inflammation, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The Orioles had consistently said Mountcastle wouldn't need an IL stint for the shoulder injury he suffered a week ago, but he simply hasn't recovered as quickly as anticipated. He'll be eligible for activation Sept. 27, but it's not clear at this time whether he will be ready then.

O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Astros.

O'Hearn homered in his first at-bat and hit safely again in the third inning for his seventh hit in a row before cooling off to end the game. He's batting .375 (21-for-56) over 15 contests in September, an impressive run in what's been a surprisingly good season for the first baseman. He's slashing .311/.339/.519 with 14 homers -- matching his career high -- 59 RBI, 47 runs scored and four stolen bases over 101 games.
