Nickerson had already been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tennessee, but he'll now be forced to miss at least three contests. However, the linebacker's absence shouldn't impact Houston's defensive plans.

This means Nickerson will have to wait to make his third appearance of the season after seeing the field previously in Week 4 and Week 8. • Bengals' Hardy Nickerson: Joins Cincy's 53-man roster

  Nickerson was promoted to the Bengals' 53-man roster Friday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Nickerson appeared in 30 games for the Bengals between 2017 and 2018 but was waived prior to Week 1. The 25-year-old should provide depth at middle linebacker behind Germaine Pratt.

• Bengals' Hardy Nickerson: Posts eight tackles in win

  Nickerson had eight tackles (five solo) and a pass defensed in Thursday's victory against Baltimore. Nickerson received the start at middle linebacker with Preston Brown (ankle) sidelined, and played all but one defensive snap in his absence. Brown will have additional time to recuperate for Week 3, and his availability should be the deciding factor in Nickerson's workload next week.

The Bengals needed to add some depth to their linebacking corps with Kevin Minter (elbow) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Nickerson has played in seven games with the Bengals so far this season, but is used far more often on special teams than he is on defense.

  Nickerson (ankle) was not present on Monday's injury report, Jay Morrison of the Dayton Daily News reports. Nickerson was designated probable to return after suffering the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Ravens, but he ultimately did not see another snap. The play on which he suffered the injury was the only snap he played during the game.
