Kerry Carpenter RF | DET
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Out Sunday, could be IL bound
Carpenter (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Carpenter exited Saturday's 5-1 loss due to a left shoulder injury, which he sustained while attempting to flag down a Bobby Witt flyball that ultimately fell in for an inside-the-park home run. The Tigers are still evaluating Carpenter before deciding whether he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list, but the team already has a contingency plan in place if the 28-year-old needs to be shut down. Per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, the Tigers have added Triple-A Toledo utility man Gage Workman to their taxi squad and will formally activate him ahead of Tuesday's game against the Mets if Carpenter needs to go on the IL.

Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM
Mets' Jorge Polanco: Achillies remains bothersome
Polanco's bruised right wrist has recovered nicely, but he's dealing with a flareup of the bursitis in his left Achilles, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Polanco landed on the shelf in mid-April due to the wrist injury, but the Achilles issue has been problematic all season. The 32-year-old resumed baseball activities in late April and was viewed as week-to-week at that point, but it's unclear how much the flareup will push back his return timeline.

Michael Massey 2B | KC
Royals' Michael Massey: Taking seat Sunday
Massey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
After going 3-for-8 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI while starting the past three games, Massey will hit the bench for the series finale. Nick Loftin will replace Massey at second base and will bat sixth.

Luis Robert CF | NYM
Mets' Luis Robert: No baseball activities
Robert (back) has yet to resume baseball activities since landing on the 10-day injured list in late April, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
The 28-year-old was shut down for 7-to-10 days after receiving an injection for a lumbar spine disc herniation in late April, and it's unclear when he'll be able to get back to baseball work. Robert is without a clear timeline for his return but is likely to be out for at least a couple more weeks since he'll need some time to ramp his activity back up.

Salvador Perez C | KC
Royals' Salvador Perez: Receiving evening off
Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Perez hasn't started a game behind the plate since May 1 while he's been managing a sore hip, but he's remained in the everyday lineup at designated hitter or first base. He doesn't seem to be dealing with any sort of setback, but Perez will get a break for the series finale after going hitless in 13 at-bats over his last four starts. Carter Jensen will handle DH duties Sunday.

Kyle Teel C | CHW
White Sox's Kyle Teel: Starting rehab assignment
Teel (hamstring) will report to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Teel progressed to running the bases this weekend, which was the final step of his rehab program before being cleared for game action. The 24-year-old has been sidelined two months due to a Grade 2 right hamstring strain, so he'll likely need at least a handful of games in the minors to get up to speed before being activated by the White Sox.

Ben Casparius P | LAD
Dodgers' Ben Casparius: In midst of throwing program
Casparius (shoulder) has been throwing at the Dodgers' complex in Arizona, per MLB.com.
Casparius has been on the IL since April 13 due to right shoulder inflammation. While he's doing some throwing, there's no word on when the right-hander may begin a rehab assignment, so he's unlikely to return to the Dodgers' bullpen in the immediate future. Casparius allowed five earned runs over 4.1 innings spanning five relief appearances this season before being shelved.

MJ Melendez RF | NYM
Mets' MJ Melendez: Taking seat in series finale
Melendez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
With lefty Eduardo Rodriguez on the hill for Arizona, the left-handed-hitting Melendez will retreat to the bench for the series finale in Phoenix. Austin Slater will enter the lineup as a replacement for Melendez, who has cooled off to begin May by going 3-for-18 with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Taking seat against southpaw
Baty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Baty will hit the bench for the series finale while the Diamondbacks send left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill. Andy Ibanez will cover third base in Baty's stead.

Joey Gerber RP | NYM
Mets' Joey Gerber: Activated, sent to Triple-A
The Mets reinstated Gerber (finger) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
The right-hander has been sidelined nearly a month due to a finger blister, but he's now been fully cleared after a four-game rehab assignment. Gerber struck out five over two scoreless frames in his lone appearance for the Mets, but he's struggled to a 6.75 ERA across seven outings at Syracuse.
