    Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Notches fourth win

    Cole (4-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings against the White Sox. He struck out seven.

    The veteran right-hander delivered his first scoreless outing since late May, though he was still pitching reasonably well prior to Tuesday with 10 runs allowed and an 11.8 K/9 across his past four starts (24.1 innings). After missing the first two months of the campaign while completing his rehab from Tommy John surgery, Cole has found his footing through 12 appearances with a 3.57 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 73:14 K:BB over 68 innings.

    Robert is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus Atlanta.

    The Mets will go with A.J. Ewing in center field for the first game of the day while Robert rests. Robert will most likely be back in the starting nine for the nightcap.

  • Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Out of lineup again Wednesday

    Del Castillo is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Pittsburgh.

    After making four straight starts against traditional righty starters or righty bulk relievers, the lefty-swinging Del Castillo has now been on the bench for two straight games versus right-handers. Ketel Marte is getting a turn at designated hitter Wednesday, and Ildemaro Vargas will enter the lineup at second base.

  • Nationals' Trevor Williams: Comes off 60-day IL

    The Nationals reinstated Williams (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

    Williams started in each of his 60 appearances with Washington over the previous three seasons, but manager Blake Butera has already said that the veteran right-hander will return to the big club in a long-relief role after posting shaky results during his rehab assignment while working his way back from internal brace surgery, which he underwent July 17, 2025. While making stops at five different affiliates from June 28 through this past Friday, Williams compiled a 6.46 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB in 15.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Exiting starting lineup

    Waldschmidt is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh.

    Waldschmidt started the first two games of the series, going 3-for-7 with one run scored, but he will exit the lineup for Wednesday's finale. Jorge Barrosa will get a start in center field for the Diamondbacks.

    Pirates' Isaac Mattson: Demoted to Indianapolis

    The Pirates optioned Mattson to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

    Mattson (1.2 innings, 39 pitches) and Brandon Eisert (2.1 innings, 41 pitches) both saw heavy usage out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to Arizona in 12 innings, so Pittsburgh will call up a pair of fresh relief arms from Triple-A (Noah Murdock and Hunter Barco) to replace them ahead of Wednesday's series finale. During his six-plus-week stay in the majors, Mattson appeared in 13 games and turned in a 6.39 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB across 12.2 innings.

    Marlins' Owen Caissie: Quick start to rehab stint

    Caissie (calf) went 1-for-1 with two walks and a solo home run for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.

    The 24-year-old outfielder hasn't suited up for the Marlins since July 8 due to a calf strain, but he made an immediate impact on his rehab assignment after being cleared for game action. Caissie was the DH on Tuesday, but per Perla Paredes of MLB.com, Marlins manager Clayton McCullough indicated Caissie would play defense Wednesday, and he could be activated from the IL as soon as this weekend.

    Pirates' Brandon Eisert: Dispatched to minors

    The Pirates optioned Eisert to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Jason Mackey of MLB.com reports.

    Eisert was needed for 2.1 innings and 41 pitches in Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks, so he's being replaced by a fresh arm. The lefty holds a 6.29 ERA and 40:12 K:BB over 34.1 innings between the White Sox and Pirates this season.

  • Hunter Barco RP | PIT

    Pirates' Hunter Barco: Added to bullpen

    The Pirates recalled Barco from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Jason Mackey of MLB.com reports.

    Barco has appeared in five games out of the Pittsburgh bullpen this season, logging a 7.71 ERA and 8:9 K:BB over 11.2 innings. The left-hander has been pitching in relief lately with Indianapolis and can provide length for a Pirates bullpen that's been overused of late.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

    Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Swipes 17th bag Tuesday

    Edwards went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Phillies.

    The switch-hitting second baseman has been busy on the basepaths of late, swiping three bags in the last five games to reach 17 on the season. Over his last 30 contests, Edwards has compiled a .304/.380/.366 slash line with three doubles, two triples, eight runs and 11 RBI, but he hasn't launched a homer since May 19.
