Royals' Cole Ragans: Playing catch, still day-to-day

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Tuesday that Ragans (elbow) played catch two of the past three days and remains day-to-day, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Quatraro added that Tuesday's throwing session was better than Sunday's, and the expectation is Ragans will play catch again Wednesday as he deals with a case of pitcher's elbow. Stephen Kolek is starting in Ragans' place Tuesday night and will fill his rotation spot while Ragans heals up on the 15-day injured list. It doesn't sound like Kansas City expects this to be a lengthy absence for its ace.

  • Pirates' Endy Rodriguez: Recalled from Triple-A

The Pirates recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

In a corresponding move, the Pirates placed Joey Bart on the 10-day injured list with a left foot infection. Rodriguez has slashed .221/.326/.301 with one home run across 113 at-bats for Triple-A Indianapolis on the season. Now up with the Pirates, he will presumably serve as the backup to Henry Davis with Bart down.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Placed on IL

The Pirates placed Bart on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday, with a left foot infection.

Manager Don Kelly said before Tuesday's contest that Bart was "banged up," and the 29-year-old backstop will officially have to miss at least seven more games while his foot heals. Henry Davis will presumably take over as Pittsburgh's primary backstop, and Endy Rodriguez will come up from Triple-A Indianapolis to provide depth behind the plate.

  • Brandan Bidois RP | PIT

Pirates' Brandan Bidois: Recalled from Triple-A

The Pirates recalled Bidois from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Bidois takes the roster spot vacated by Cam Sanders, who was optioned to Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Bidois will make his major-league debut with his first appearance. He pitched across three levels of the minors last season and has a 7.20 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across 15 innings with Indianapolis this season.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Not starting Tuesday

Vaughn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Vaughn has gone 3-for-13 with three walks, a double and a homer in five games since coming off the injured list last week, though he finds himself on the bench Tuesday for the second time in Milwaukee's past three contests. Jake Bauers, who has an .850 OPS across 20 at-bats in May, will instead start at first base in the series opener versus San Diego.

  • Dylan Beavers OF | BAL

Orioles' Dylan Beavers: Scratched with oblique discomfort

Beavers was scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup against the Yankees due to right oblique discomfort, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.comreports.

With Beavers out of the lineup, Colton Cowser will step into his spot in center field, batting seventh. Beavers is in the midst of a 13-game homerless drought, but he's been swinging a hotter bat of late, going 6-for-13 with four doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and a 3:4 BB:K over his last five games.

  • Leody Taveras CF | BAL

Orioles' Leody Taveras: Taking seat Tuesday

Taveras is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Taveras started the previous four contests and will hit the bench Tuesday after going 2-for-13 with five strikeouts during that stretch. Colton Cowser is manning center field Tuesday, though it was originally Dylan Beavers that was set to start before being scratched with oblique discomfort, per Jake Rill of MLB.com.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Dealing with injury

Manager Don Kelly said Bart, who is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, is "banged up," Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.

Bart is sitting for a second consecutive game Tuesday after starting five of Pittsburgh's previous six contests. It's unclear if the 29-year-old is in danger of landing on the injured list. Henry Davis is starting behind the plate and batting ninth in the series opener versus Colorado.

  • Pedro Pages C | STL

Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Pages isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics.

Pages will step out of the lineup Tuesday after going 0-for-19 with six strikeouts over his last six games. His absence will give Ivan Herrera a start behind the plate, allowing Yohel Pozo to work as the Cardinals' designated hitter.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Gimenez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.

Gimenez will occasionally sit versus left-handed starting pitchers, and that'll be the case Tuesday with Tampa Bay sending out southpaw Shane McClanahan. Ernie Clement is getting the nod at shortstop in Gimenez's place, opening up the keystone for Lenyn Sosa.
