Seymour (7-3) earned the win Wednesday against the Rangers. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.2 scoreless innings.

The left-hander followed opener Casey Legumina and delivered his first scoreless appearance since June 25. Seymour has a 4-2 record over his past seven outings and has a 3.60 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 45:9 K:BB across 35 innings during that span. It remains to be seen if Seymour will continue to pitch behind an opener for his next turn through the rotation or if he'll work as a traditional starter. Regardless, he lines up to face the Rockies on the road early next week.

The Athletics transferred Leiter (hip) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Leiter has already been ruled out for the season after undergoing surgery to address a right hip impingement, so the A's will stash him away on the 60-day IL and free up a 40-man roster spot for Connor Thomas, who was claimed off waivers from Atlanta in a corresponding move.

The Athletics claimed Thomas off waivers from Atlanta on Thursday.

Atlanta optioned Thomas to Triple-A and later waived him after he gave up 11 runs in just 2.2 innings during his last big-league appearance Monday. The A's will bring him in despite his poor performance, though it's unclear whether he'll immediately claim a spot in the big-league bullpen. Mark Leiter (hip) was transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Mathews is no longer listed among the upcoming probable pitchers at Triple-A Memphis and could join the Cardinals' rotation soon, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Mathews had been scheduled to start Thursday, but now he's not listed among Memphis' probables through Sunday. The left-hander could enter the Cardinals' rotation as soon as this weekend in Toronto, taking the spot of Dustin May, who is expected to be traded before Monday's deadline. Mathews has been on a roll at Memphis, authoring a 1.55 ERA and 59:19 K:BB over 52.1 innings since the beginning of June.

Scott allowed one run on two hits and struck out one batter over one inning in a 4-2 win over Seattle on Wednesday.

Scott had recorded a save in 10 of his previous 15 outings while serving as Los Angeles' closer, but Edwin Diaz was activated off the IL on Wednesday and ended up registering a save with a one-run ninth inning. Scott instead handled the eighth and gave up a run on a pair of hits (a double and a single), though his outing could have been worse if not for a highlight-reel catch by Teoscar Hernandez in left field. Scott has been stellar overall this year with a 2.47 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 56:6 K:BB over 43.2 innings, and he could still get occasional save chances when Diaz is down or when matchups call for the Dodgers to go to a left-handed reliever; however, for the most part, it appears Scott will primarily work in a setup role moving forward.

Snell (elbow) struck out nine and allowed one hit and no walks four scoreless innings Wednesday in a rehab start with Single-A Ontario.

After making his previous two rehab appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Snell bumped down a few levels for his third outing in the minors. He hit his targets of four innings and 60 pitches (45 strikes) in the start, potentially setting him up to return from the 60-day injured list to make his next appearance out of the Los Angeles rotation. Snell will likely throw a bullpen session in front of the Dodgers' brass before his next step is decided, and even if he gains clearance to return from the IL, he'll be subject to limited workload in his first start back from the shelf. The veteran southpaw has been on the IL since May 15 after undergoing a NanoScope procedure to remove loose bodies from his elbow.

McClanahan was pulled from Thursday's start versus the Rangers in the fourth inning with left mid-back tightness, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

McClanahan hit the leadoff man with a pitch to lead off the top of the fourth inning and then issued a walk to the second batter he saw. At that point, he was visited by the trainer and walked off the field. The Rays had a reliever warming at the start of the inning even though the lefty had thrown three scoreless frames, indicating they knew McClanahan's back had been bothering him. McClanahan was charged with one run on two walks and a strikeout over three-plus innings. The club should have more on the hurler's status after the contest.

Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to Miami.

The veteran shortstop has mostly struggled at the plate this season, but he's swinging a better bat as of late. Over 98 plate appearances in July, Turner is hitting .267 with six homers, three doubles, one triple and 14 RBI. For the season, he's still slashing an underwhelming .243/.292/.392 with 15 long balls, 42 RBI, 73 runs scored and 17 stolen bases across 469 plate appearances.

The Astros released France on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

France missed much of the 2025 season following right shoulder surgery and has spent nearly all of 2026 at Triple-A Sugar Land, logging a 3.72 ERA and 39:25 K:BB across 36.1 frames. The 31-year-old is now a free agent and will look to latch on with a new organization.

Sands will undergo arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove loose bodies and bone spurs from his right elbow, Jack Azoulay-Haron of ElEmergente.com reports.

Sands has battled elbow problems throughout the 2026 season and landed back on the 15-day injured list Tuesday. He has opted for season-ending surgery to repair the issue but expects to have a "pretty much normal" offseason after getting a PRP injection post-op. Sands allowed 11 runs with an 11:5 K:BB over 12 innings for the Twins this season. The 29-year-old has two more years of arbitration eligibility remaining.
