  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Idle against southpaw

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Smith was part of the lineup against a lefty (the Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez) on Opening Day, but the left-handed-hitting infielder will hit the bench for a second straight matchup versus a southpaw. Ezequiel Duran will get the nod at second base Wednesday against Trevor Rogers and could serve as a regular platoon partner for Smith.

  • Rangers' Kyle Higashioka: On bench Wednesday

Higashioka is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Through Texas' first six games, Higashioka has drawn two starts at catcher to Danny Jansen's four. The Rangers could split the reps fairly equitably between the two backstops this season, but at least in the early going, Jansen looks to be Option 1A of the duo.

  • Griffin Conine RF | MIA

Marlins' Griffin Conine: Sitting Wednesday due to illness

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said that Conine won't start Wednesday against the White Sox due to an illness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Conine could still be available for a pinch-hitting appearance, but the ailment is serious enough to keep the left-handed-hitting batter out of the lineup against a righty starter (Shane Smith). Heriberto Hernandez will take Conine's spot in the starting nine, manning left field and batting seventh.

  • White Sox's Luisangel Acuna: Another start at shortstop

Acuna will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's contest versus the Marlins.

It's the third start at shortstop already this season for Acuna, who has also made two starts in center field. Colson Montgomery is at third base for the White Sox on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Acuna is currently eligible only at second base on most fantasy platforms, but he's on track to pick up eligibility at shortstop and outfield soon. Acuna is 2-for-12 with a 1:1 BB:K and two stolen bases in his first four games this season.

  • Austin Hays LF | CHW

White Sox's Austin Hays: Day off Wednesday

Hays is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Miami.

Hays will receive a day off after going 3-for-19 with a 0:9 BB:K over his first 19 plate appearances this season. Andrew Benintendi will patrol left field for the White Sox on Wednesday and Miguel Vargas will get a start at designated hitter.

  • Edgar Quero C | CHW

White Sox's Edgar Quero: Exiting starting nine

Quero is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami.

It's a day game after a night game, so Quero will get a breather after starting at catcher the previous three days. Reese McGuire will be behind the dish and bat eighth in Wednesday's series finale.

  • Ben Bowden RP | ATH

Athletics' Ben Bowden: Makes season debut at Triple-A

Bowden (lat) struck out a batter and allowed one earned run on three hits over an inning of relief Monday in Triple-A Las Vegas' 13-8 loss to Oklahoma City.

After closing out the 2025 season on the Athletics' injured list while recovering from a left lat strain, Bowden re-signed with the franchise on a minor-league deal over the winter but didn't end up appearing in any games during the Cactus League. However, the veteran southpaw was evidently healthy enough to avoid a stint on Las Vegas' injured list to begin the season. He should serve as a key reliever for the Triple-A club while he awaits a potential call-up to the big-league bullpen.

  • Ryan O'Hearn RF | PIT

Pirates' Ryan O'Hearn: Absent from Wednesday's lineup

O'Hearn is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Cincinnati.

The left-handed-hitting O'Hearn was in the lineup the first two times the Pirates faced a lefty this season, but he'll take a seat in Wednesday's series finale as the Reds send southpaw Andrew Abbott to the hill. Jake Mangum will cover right field and Spencer Horwitz will handle first base for the Pirates.

  • Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH

Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Drawing second start of season

Hernaiz will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Hernaiz will draw his second start of the season, both of which have come against left-handed pitchers. The 24-year-old appears poised to serve as an occasional platoon partner at second base with the left-handed-hitting Jeff McNeil, who will hit the bench for a second straight matchup versus a southpaw (Chris Sale).

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Pirates' Brandon Lowe: Taking seat Wednesday

Lowe is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati.

Lowe had started each of the first five games of the season -- including two versus left-handers -- but the lefty bat will take a seat Wednesday as the Reds send southpaw Andrew Abbott to the bump. Nick Gonzales will cover second base for the Pirates.
