The Nationals transferred Lovelady (triceps) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Since landing on the IL on June 29 due to a left triceps strain, Lovelady has made limited progress in his recovery. Per MLB.com, Lovelady has been able to take part in strengthening work but has yet to resume a throwing program nearly three weeks after suffering the injury. The Nationals apparently weren't confident that Lovelady would be ready to return in the next five weeks, so he was moved to the 60-day IL in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for lefty Matt Krook, who re-signed with the organization on a one-year deal.

The Nationals re-signed Krook to a major-league contract prior to Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Krook had elected free agency after rejecting an outright assignment to Triple-A Rochester when Washington removed him from its 40-man roster a week ago, but he quickly ended up returning to the Nationals on a new deal. The 31-year-old will give Washington another left-handed option in its bullpen after PJ Poulin (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday.

Triple-A Charlotte reinstated Smith (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Sunday.

The 22-year-old lefty will rejoin the Triple-A club after a five-week stint on the shelf due to a left shoulder impingement. Over 15 starts with Charlotte this season, Smith has submitted a 4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 84:37 K:BB across 57 frames.

The White Sox released Sims on Sunday.

Sims will part ways with the organization for the second time this season, as he previously elected free agency after the White Sox designated him for assignment in late April. He later re-signed with Chicago but was unable to earn another look in the big leagues after submitting an 8.76 ERA, 2.11 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB in 12.1 innings over 13 appearances at Triple-A Charlotte.

Skenes (9-8) earned the win against the Guardians on Sunday, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

Skenes allowed a run in the third inning but was impressive otherwise, generating 18 whiffs on 100 pitches en route to his third straight win. After surrendering seven earned runs in his first July start, the All-Star has yielded just five over his three victories since. He owns a 3.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 138:26 K:BB across 115.1 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup with the Cubs next weekend.

Edman is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Edman will get a breather in the nightcap after he went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in the team's 8-2 matinee victory Sunday. Miguel Rojas will take over at second base and bat sixth in the series finale.

Schuemann is out of the lineup for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Dodgers.

Schuemann will hit the bench for the night after he went 0-for-3 while starting in right field in the Yankees' 8-2 loss in Game 1. Jasson Dominguez served as the Yankees' designated hitter in the early game but will replace Schuemann in right field for the nightcap.

Cantillo (8-5) took the loss against the Pirates on Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over five innings.

Cantillo entered the sixth inning aiming for a potential quality start but allowed back-to-back doubles to open the frame and was charged with two runs without recording an out. It ended a run of six straight outings in which the 26-year-old allowed two earned runs or fewer, though he still generated a whopping 17 swinging strikes on 80 pitches. He'll take a 3.74 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 112:52 K:BB across 106 innings this season into a road matchup with the Rays next weekend.

Rushing is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's nightcap against the Yankees, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Rushing will head to the bench after he went 0-for-2 with three walks and a run scored in the team's 8-2 win over New York in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Eliezer Alfonzo will take over behind the plate as Los Angeles goes for the series sweep.

Mize exited Sunday's start against the Angels in fourth inning after being struck in the left hand by a comebacker, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Mize entered the bottom of the fourth inning having tossed three innings of one-run ball before he took a 108.8 mph ground ball from Jo Adell off his glove hand to open the frame. The right-hander was able to finish the play, throwing out Adell at first base, but Mize was then forced to exit the game. He was already up to 74 pitches on the day, and it's possible that his removal was simply precautionary. More information on the status of Mize moving forward will likely come in the near future.
