Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Surgery set for Sept. 23
Wheeler (shoulder) is slated to have thoracic outlet decompression surgery Sept. 23, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports.
Wheeler underwent a procedure in mid-August to remove a blood clot near his shoulder, and he's set for a second (and more significant) procedure after being diagnosed with venous thoracic outlet syndrome. The veteran hurler is expected to need six to eight months to recover from the upcoming surgery, which means that he may not be ready for Opening Day next season. However, if all goes well moving forward, Wheeler should be able to return to the mound sometime during the first half of the 2026 campaign.

Javier Sanoja 3B | MIA
Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Late addition to lineup Saturday
Sanoja has been added to Miami's lineup against Detroit as the No. 9 hitter and third baseman Saturday.
Sanoja was originally slated to begin on the bench, but he's been called upon to start after Xavier Edwards was scratched due to right wrist discomfort. With Sanoja entering the lineup at the hot corner, Maximo Acosta is sliding over to second base.

Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Scratched from Saturday's lineup
Edwards has been removed from Saturday's lineup due to right wrist discomfort, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Edwards was initially penciled in as Miami's leadoff hitter and starter at second base, but he'll instead begin the contest on the bench. It's not clear if he may be available to enter later in the game. Miami should release an updated lineup shortly.

Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI
Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Out of lineup with groin issue
Sosa (groin) isn't starting Saturday versus Kansas City, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Sosa was pulled from Friday's series opener due to right groin tightness, and he's not in the lineup one day later. Manager Rob Thomson said after Friday's contest that Sosa's removal was precautionary, though the team figures to continue the cautious approach given the Phillies' 12-game cushion atop the NL East. With Sosa beginning on the bench Saturday, Bryson Stott is starting at shortstop while Donovan Walton is handling second base.

Christian Roa RP | CHC
Marlins' Christian Roa: Brought back up to big club
Miami recalled Roa from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.
Roa's return to the Marlins was spurred by fellow reliever Tyler Phillips landing on the paternity list. Phillips is allowed up to three days away from the team, so Roa's time with the big-league squad may be short. Roa has just one appearance with Miami this year, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over two scoreless innings against Philadelphia on Sept. 6.

Giants' Joey Lucchesi: Tosses scoreless outing Friday

Lucchesi threw eight of his 17 pitches for strikes while retiring three of the four batters he faced. He hasn't allowed a run in nine consecutive outings. The left-hander owns a 2.94 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB across 33.2 innings in 33 appearances this season.

Giants' Willy Adames: Doubles in victory
Adames went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in Friday's 5-1 extra-inning win over the Dodgers.
Adames lined a double to center field in the first inning, marking his second two-bagger in his last four games. He's batting .286 with a home run and a 2:3 BB:K across 16 plate appearances during that span. In 49 outings since the All-Star break, Adames is slashing .247/.340/.544 with 34 runs scored, 33 RBI, 16 home runs, six doubles and five stolen bases in 212 plate appearances.

Riley Adams C | WAS
Nationals' Riley Adams: Taking seat Saturday
Adams is not in Washington's lineup Saturday versus Pittsburgh, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Adams missed a game earlier in the week due to a groin issue, but there's no indication that his absence Saturday is related. Upon returning to the lineup, he started back-to-back contests and went 0-fof-5 with a walk and three strikeouts. Jorge Alfaro is starting behind the dish in Adams' stead Saturday.

Masyn Winn SS | STL
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Officially put on IL
Winn (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.
Winn was originally slated to start Friday's series opener against Milwaukee, but he was scratched before the start of the contest. The Cardinals subsequently decided to rule him out for the season since he hasn't recovered as well as hoped from a torn meniscus in his right knee. With Winn officially landing on the IL on Saturday, his big-league roster spot was filled by infielder Jose Fermin.
