  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Returned to Triple-A

The Cardinals optioned Dobbins to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. As anticipated, Dobbins will move back to the minors after he was called up Tuesday to serve as the 27th man in the Cardinals' doubleheader with the Brewers. He started the second game of the twin bill, dropping to 1-1 over his five appearances on the season with St. Louis after he struck out four batters and allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks across five innings in the Cardinals' 10-2 loss.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Stuck with loss in nightcap

Dobbins (1-1) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out four. The 26-year-old right-hander didn't pitch poorly, but he left the mound with St. Louis in a 3-0 hole that the offense never climbed out of. Dobbins was up as the 27th man for the twin bill, and he's likely headed back to Triple-A Memphis soon enough. Over five appearances (three starts) in the majors this year, Dobbins has posted a 4.03 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

The Cardinals recalled Dobbins from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday. Dobbins is serving as the 27th man during Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers and is slated to start the second game. The right-hander has posted a 3.63 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB over 17.1 innings during his time with the big club this season. Dobbins is likely to be sent back down after his spot start.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Jettisoned to minors

The Cardinals optioned Dobbins to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Dobbins made a couple long-relief appearances and one start for the Cardinals during his stint in the majors. The club had left open the possibility of sticking with Dobbins as part of a six-man rotation for at least another turn, but ultimately it opted to revert back to a five-man setup. Dobbins holds a 3.63 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB across 17.1 innings in the majors this season.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Goes 4.1 innings vs. Mets

Dobbins did not factor into the decision in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Mets, allowing three runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. The Mets got to Dobbins early, scoring three runs on a pair of first-inning homers by Bo Bichette and Jared Young, but the right-hander would manage to settle in and hold New York scoreless over his final 3.1 frames. Dobbins has made two starts and four appearances overall for St. Louis this season, posting a 3.63 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB across 17.1 innings. He would currently line up to face the Padres at home in his next outing, assuming the Cardinals stick with a six-man rotation.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Set for start Thursday

Dobbins is slated to start Thursday's game against the Mets at Citi Field, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Dobbins will get a turn in the rotation after making two appearances out of the bullpen since his call-up from Triple-A Memphis on May 31. In those two outings, the 26-year-old combined to pitch 8.2 innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. St. Louis hasn't indicated that it will maintain a six-man rotation beyond this week, so Dobbins may need a strong showing against the Mets to make a case for earning additional starts.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Snags save in long-relief outing

Dobbins allowed one run on four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 3.2 innings to earn the save in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Cubs. Dobbins was called up from Triple-A Memphis earlier in the day. While it was initially a possibility that he'd join the Cardinals' rotation, this long-relief outing, which saw him throw 41 of 61 pitches for strikes, will likely prevent him from making a start any time soon. Dobbins has given up four runs with an 8:5 K:BB over eight innings in two major-league appearances this season. He's sporting a 3.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB across 44.2 innings as a starter for Memphis. At this time, it's unclear if Dobbins will remain in the majors -- he'll likely be unavailable for a few days, but he was able to give all of the Cardinals' other relievers a day off Sunday.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Rejoins MLB club

The Cardinals recalled Dobbins from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. After opening the season on the injured list while completing his rehab from knee surgery, Dobbins made his Cardinals debut April 30 in Pittsburgh and was optioned to Memphis after giving up three runs across 4.1 innings. The right-hander has worked out of the rotation at Triple-A but should immediately be available out of the bullpen for St. Louis since he was scheduled to start Sunday for Memphis. According to Jones, the Cardinals could look to insert Dobbins into the rotation if he's not needed in Sunday's contest.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Ready for rehab assignment

Dobbins (knee) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Memphis, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Dobbins managed to build up during spring training, though the team has limited him in fielding drills as he continues to rehab from ACL surgery. A timetable for his return from the injured list is unclear at this time, and even once he's fully healthy, it's unknown if he'll have a spot in the rotation waiting for him.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Goes on IL

The Cardinals placed Dobbins (knee) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Dobbins is still working his way back from July surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Though he's been able to steadily build up his pitch count throughout the spring through live batting practice sessions and simulated games, he's not yet been cleared for full fielding and agility drills. Once he clears that hurdle in the recovery process, Dobbins may not require an extensive rehab assignment, but the Cardinals aren't guaranteed to have a spot in the rotation available for him upon his return from the IL.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Opening season on IL

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Sunday that Dobbins (knee) will begin the season on the injured list, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The right-hander continues to work his way back from ACL surgery last July, and he needs a bit more time before being fully cleared for game action. Dobbins built up to five innings while throwing on the back fields Saturday, but he still has some work to do in regard to fielding his position. The 26-year-old may not require a lengthy absence to begin the season, but he's also not guaranteed to join the big-league club once fully healthy.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Pitching in minor-league game

Dobbins (knee) will pitch in another minor-league game later this week, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Returning from last July's right ACL surgery, Dobbins threw four innings and around 65 pitches in a previous appearance on the back fields. He was pleased with how that outing went, saying "a lot of the movement profiles have increased" after "some of the tweaks we've been making." Dobbins will be permitted to field his position in the game later this week, but he will not be allowed to cover first base, as the Cardinals are still being protective of his surgically repaired knee. The 26-year-old is set to open the 2026 season either on the injured list or at Triple-A Memphis, but he's a candidate to see starts for St. Louis later this summer.

  • Cardinals' Hunter Dobbins: Uncertain timeline for return

Cardinals president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom indicated during the team's recent Winter Warm-Up fan event that it's uncertain whether Dobbins (knee) will pitch in spring training games, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Dobbins needed surgery to repair a torn right ACL in July. He's been throwing all offseason, but the Cardinals could still choose to slow-play their offseason trade acquisition. If healthy, Dobbins will compete for a spot in the St. Louis rotation, but he does have minor-league options remaining and could also be stashed on the injured list for a while. More clarity on Dobbins' timetable should be available once spring training gets underway.

  • Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Beginning throwing progression

Dobbins (knee) has been cleared to start a full throwing program, the pitcher revealed on his X account Monday. Dobbins blew out the ACL in his right knee in mid-July and had surgery, but he's expected to have a normal offseason and show up to spring training without restrictions. The right-hander posted a 4.13 ERA and 45:17 K:BB through 61 innings with the big club in 2025 and could compete for a spot in Boston's 2026 rotation.

  • Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Shifted to 60-day injured list

The Red Sox transferred Dobbins (knee) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for lefty Steven Matz, who was acquired via trade with the Cardinals. Dobbins is out for the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

  • Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Injury potentially significant

Dobbins is feared to have suffered a serious knee injury during Friday's game against Tampa Bay, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Dobbins hurt himself while covering first base during Friday's contest. Boston is still in the process of evaluating the damage done to the right-hander's knee, which may include an ACL injury, though early indications suggest that he will most likely have to miss a significant amount of time.

  • Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Exits with injury

Dobbins was removed from Friday's game against the Rays with a right knee injury, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Dobbins pulled up while running to cover first base in the second inning, and he was in clear discomfort while throwing a warm-up pitch after the training staff came to visit him. The team will take a closer look at the 25-year-old righty and should have more information on his status relatively soon.

Dobbins (elbow) is expected to be activated off the 15-day injured list Friday and will start that night's game against the Rays, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The Red Sox cleared a roster spot for Dobbins following Thursday's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay by optioning reliever Isaiah Campbell to Triple-A Worcester. Dobbins had gone 4-1 with a 4.10 ERA, 43 strikeouts and 16 walks over 59.1 innings prior to landing on the injured list with a right elbow strain.

  • Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Makes first rehab start

Dobbins (elbow) allowed one run on two hits while striking out eight over five scoreless innings for Double-A Portland on Saturday. Dobbins was dominant and efficient in his first rehab outing, needing 62 pitches (44 strikes) to get through the five innings. The pitch count suggests he could be ready to be activated. Both Dobbins and Tanner Houck (elbow), who had an encouraging outing over the weekend for Portland, could be part of Boston's rotation in the second half.

  • Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Cleared for rehab start

Dobbins (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland this weekend, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Dobbins has missed the last week-plus of action with a right elbow strain but has been cleared for a rehab start after throwing a bullpen session without issue Monday. He's expected to require just one rehab outing, setting Dobbins up to potentially return from the 15-day injured list next week.
