  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Reds' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Absent from lineup

Hayes is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Cubs.

Hayes' playing time since he returned from the injured list earlier this month has been unsteady, as this will be his fifth time out of the lineup across 11 tilts. Jose Trevino is getting a start in Hayes' place, as Tyler Stephenson will slot in at designated hitter and Eugenio Suarez will play third base.

  • Pirates' Rafael Flores: Exiting starting lineup

Flores is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Royals.

After starting each of the previous four contests, Flores will exit the lineup for Friday's series opener. Henry Davis will do the catching for the Pirates.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Moved to 60-day IL

The Reds transferred Steer (wrist) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Oswaldo Cabrera, who was claimed off waivers. Steer has been ramping up his activities recently as he works his way back from a partial tear of the tendon sheath in his wrist. He will be eligible for activation Sept. 25, but there's a good chance Steer's season is over.

  • Julian Garcia RP | CIN

Reds' Julian Garcia: Done for season after IL move

The Reds placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list Friday with loose bodies in his right elbow.

Per Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati, Garcia will undergo surgery, which shouldn't affect his readiness for spring training. The 31-year-old has had a nice rookie season out of the Reds' bullpen, logging a 3.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 41:19 K:BB over 46 frames.

  • Julian Aguiar RP | CHC

Reds' Julian Aguiar: Back with big club

The Reds recalled Aguiar from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

The 25-year-old is a good bet to log some innings Friday against the Cubs after Chase Burns, who is in line for an abbreviated start. Aguiar holds a 6.27 ERA and 45:29 K:BB over 47.1 innings this season with Louisville, and he hasn't pitched in the majors since 2024.

  • Reds' Oswaldo Cabrera: Scooped up off waivers by Reds

The Reds claimed Cabrera off waivers from the Yankees on Friday.

Cabrera has a career .232/.292/.343 slash line over parts of five major-league seasons, but he can play all over the diamond and is under team control through 2028. The 27-year-old appears ticketed for Triple-A Louisville for the time being.

  • Cardinals' Everson Pereira: Cleared for rehab games

Pereira (hand) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single along with two walks.

It was the first game action in nearly a month for Pereira, who is working his way back from a left hand contusion. It's unclear whether the 25-year-old outfielder will need any more rehab contests, but he's poised to rejoin the Cardinals' active roster before the regular season concludes. Once he does return, Pereira could see playing time versus lefties.

  • Sal Stewart 1B | CIN

Reds' Sal Stewart: Snaps HR drought

Stewart went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Stewart socked his 32nd home run of the season in the fourth inning. The blast was the first in 16 games for the rookie, who entered Thursday with just three RBI over his previous 15 contests.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Ramping up activity

Steer (wrist) has been taking dry swings and is preparing to hit off a velocity machine next week, MLB.com reports.

Steer, who is unlikely to play again during the 2026 regular season, will ramp up while the Reds finish the regular season on the road in Atlanta and Toronto. Following his work on the machine, Steer is ticketed for Arizona, where he may get at-bats in the Arizona Fall League.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Locks down 32nd save

Duran struck out two while allowing one hit and no walks in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Mets.

That gives Duran a save on back-to-back days. The star closer's last blown save came July 27 in Miami, and he's recorded at least one punchout in seven consecutive appearances and 10 of his last 11. Duran sports a 1.76 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 79:9 K:BB over 56.1 innings this year, piling up 32 saves (34 chances) to match his career high.
