  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes deep again Sunday

Wisdom went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Royals.

Wisdom entered the ninth inning 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, but he salvaged his day with the solo blast, his sixth home run of the season. The veteran also went deep Saturday, hitting a go-ahead grand slam off the bench. While it's been a nice burst for Wisdom, he's still in a reserve role for the Cubs, which keeps his fantasy value limited.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Cardinals' Steven Matz: Beginning rehab assignment

Matz (back) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday and is expected to throw about 30 pitches over two innings, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The left-hander is hoping to return from the injured list sometime in August, and beginning a rehab assignment at the start of the month should give him a chance to make that happen. Matz has been sidelined since late April and will likely need a least a few rehab starts before rejoining the Cardinals.

  • Alika Williams SS | ATH

Pirates' Alika Williams: Back in majors

The Pirates recalled Williams from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.

The 25-year-old will take the roster spot of Nick Gonzales, who was placed on the injured list Sunday with a groin injury. Williams has a .210/.234/.290 slash line in 23 big-league games this season and could see some action at second base with Gonzales expected to be out well beyond the 10-day minimum.

  • Giants' LaMonte Wade: On bench versus southpaw

Wade is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Wade has gone 4-for-23 in seven games since the All-Star break and will sit Sunday as lefty Austin Gomber takes the mound for Colorado. David Villar will start at first base and bat seventh in the series finale.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting out Sunday

Tellez (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Arizona.

The 29-year-old was removed from Friday's contest due to back spasms and will sit Sunday for the second straight game. Connor Joe will receive another start at first base for the Pirates in Tellez's place.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: On bench Sunday

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Pirates.

Gurriel is hitting .256 with a .618 OPS in 18 games during July and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale versus Pittsburgh. Jake McCarthy will receive a start in left field and bat fifth for Arizona.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Taking seat Sunday

Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Marte will receive Sunday off after a string of 10 straight starts, a stretch in which he posted a .405/.478/.838 slash line with five home runs and 16 RBI. Kevin Newman will receive a look at the keystone in the series finale versus Pittsburgh.

  • Kris Bryant RF | COL

Rockies' Kris Bryant: Not in Sunday's lineup

Bryant is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Bryant sat out Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader and will hit the bench Sunday for a second straight game. He's gone 4-for-16 with a double, a walk, four runs and eight strikeouts in four games since being activated from the injured list Tuesday.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Returns to majors

The Giants recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander was optioned to Sacramento on Wednesday but will quickly return to the big leagues as Sean Hjelle (personal) lands on the bereavement list. Rodriguez has made 29 appearances for the Giants this season and has a 4.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB across 43 innings.

  • Nick Gonzales 3B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Heading to IL

Pirates GM Ben Cherington said Sunday that Gonzales (groin) is being placed on the 10-day injured list, and the absence will be measured in weeks, not days, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old is expected to return before the end of the season, but when exactly that might be remains to be seen. Gonzales suffered the groin injury during Saturday's matchup with the Diamondbacks and will now be sidelined for the foreseeable future. He got off to a hot start with a .280/.316/.439 slash line in his first 44 games of the season but posted a .533 OPS in July.
