  • Reed Garrett RP | NYM

Mets' Reed Garrett: Activated from IL

The Mets activated Garrett (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Garrett has been out of major-league action since July 10 due to inflammation in his right elbow. In his last rehab outing with Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, he allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in one inning. Before landing on the IL, Garrett recorded eight holds and four saves across 36 major-league outings with a 3.64 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 42 innings. To make room on the 26-man roster for Garrett, the Mets optioned Alex Young to Syracuse.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Drives in three runs Friday

Machado went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run and three RBI In Friday's extra-inning win over Miami.

The Padres were held scoreless until the eighth inning, when Machado plated a run with a double. Jackson Merrill homered in the ninth to send the game into an extra frame, and Machado helped San Diego break things open in the top of the 10th frame with a double that drove in two runners. Machado has been on a heater over his past 15 games, slashing .349/.382/.698 with five homers, seven doubles, 15 RBI, 13 runs, a stolen base and a 4:8 BB:K.

  • Giants' LaMonte Wade: Resting Saturday

Wade isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game versus Detroit, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Wade will get a chance to regroup Saturday after going 5-for-24 with a home run since the start of August. While he rests, Mark Canha will get the starting nod at first base and bat sixth.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Racks up three hits in win

Donovan went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Donovan has five multi-hit efforts over his last 12 games, batting .326 (14-for-43) in that span. He struggled just after the All-Star break, but he's at least making consistent contact again, though just two of those hits have gone for extra bases. For the season, Donovan is slashing .269/.335/.393 with nine home runs, 53 RBI, 47 runs scored, 24 doubles, one triple and three stolen bases across 110 contests.

  • Alec Burleson 1B | STL

Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Clubs 20th homer

Burleson went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Burleson reached the 20-homer mark for the first time in his career with his third-inning blast Friday. He's batting .242 with two homers, a double and four RBI over eight contests in August, though he remains in the No. 2 spot in the order. For the year, the slugger has a .278/.312/.466 slash line, 67 RBI, 54 runs scored, 15 doubles and seven stolen bases over 109 games.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Kittredge: Secures 30th hold

Kittredge allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one over a scoreless inning, earning his major-league-leading 30th hold of the season in Friday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Kittredge has been one of the best setup men in the majors this year, which has helped the Cardinals rely on the bullpen to find success. He's on a 7.1-inning scoreless streak since the All-Star break, adding five holds and a blown save in that span. For the year, Kittredge has pitched to a 3.02 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 49:15 K:BB while adding one save, five blown saves and a 1-4 record over 50.2 innings.

  • Cardinals' Matthew Liberatore: Collects third win

Liberatore (3-3) allowed one walk and struck out three over three scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win Friday over the Royals.

Liberatore allowed nine runs over his first 3.2 innings following the All-Star break, but he's bounced back with 6.2 scoreless innings and a 9:2 K:BB over his four appearances in August. The southpaw has been a multi-inning reliever and occasional spot starter for the Cardinals this year. He's now at a 4.76 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 53:22 K:BB through 62.1 innings, but it doesn't look like he'll find a path to a regular starting role any time soon.

  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Taking over as closer

Manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Walker will serve as the Giants' closer going forward, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Walker has been dominant out of the bullpen this season, posting a 2.24 ERA and 0.88 WHIP across 60.1 frames while typically handling the seventh inning for the Giants. With the struggling Camilo Doval now in Triple-A Sacramento, Walker will become San Francisco's go-to reliever in save situations and is worth rostering in all fantasy formats.

  • Marlins' Emmanuel Rivera: Resting Saturday

Rivera isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday versus the Padres.

Rivera went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday, snapping a five-game hitting streak. His absence will put Jake Burger at third base and open a spot in the lineup for Derek Hill to start in center field while batting eighth.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Soothes slump with two RBI

Smith went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI in Friday's 9-5 win against Pittsburgh.

Smith's third-inning two-run single wasn't well-struck -- it was a blooper that landed in right field on a check swing -- but it was a big moment for the catcher given his post-break slump that had included a .096 batting average and 32.2 percent strikeout rate over his previous 13 contests. The recent punchouts have been particularly out of character for the All-Star backstop, whose strikeout rates have been 16.6 and 16.1 percent in the past two seasons, respectively. Smith's slump has brought his season slash line down to .247/.327/.433, and his .760 OPS is on pace for a career-worst mark. He's still been among the most productive fantasy performers at his position, though, with 15 home runs, 60 RBI and 54 runs over 407 plate appearances on the campaign.
