  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Idle Sunday

Mitchell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Mitchell has started the season strong with two hits, three walks, two stolen bases, three RBI and two runs through the first two games, but he'll hit the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Christian Yelich, Jake Bauers and David Hamilton as Milwaukee stocks up on right-handed bats to counter southpaw Anthony Kay. Blake Perkins will cover center field in Mitchell's place Sunday.

  • Jake Bauers RF | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Sitting against southpaw

Bauers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Bauers went 3-for-10 with a home run, three RBI and two additional runs through the Brewers' first two contests of the season, but he'll hit the bench Sunday against southpaw Anthony Kay. Especially while Andrew Vaughn (hand) and Jackson Chourio (hand) are on the shelf, Bauers should have a clear runway to regular playing time against right-handed pitching.

  • David Hamilton SS | MIL

Brewers' David Hamilton: Taking seat against southpaw

Hamilton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

After starting at third base in the first two games of the season, Hamilton will retreat to the bench against southpaw Anthony Kay. Luis Rengifo will cover the hot corner in his place. Hamilton has helped fantasy managers early on by going 1-for-4 with four walks, three stolen bases and three runs.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Sitting against lefty

Pauley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Pauley has hit the bench for two of the Marlins' first three games, with both of his absences coming against southpaws. The 25-year-old could eventually find himself in a platoon at third base with Connor Norby, but the Marlins should have plenty of playing time available for both players while Christopher Morel (oblique) and Kyle Stowers (hamstring) are on the shelf.

  • Liam Hicks C | MIA

Marlins' Liam Hicks: Idle against lefty

Hicks is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

The 26-year-old was included in the lineup Saturday when Colorado sent right-hander Michael Lorenzen to the mound, but he's been on the bench for matchups against southpaws Kyle Freeland and Jose Quintana. Hicks should have a fairly clear path to playing time versus righties while Christopher Morel (oblique) and Kyle Stowers (hamstring) are on the injured list, but at-bats could be more difficult to come by once the Marlins get healthier.

  • Griffin Conine RF | MIA

Marlins' Griffin Conine: Sitting versus lefty

Conine is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

The left-handed-hitting Conine went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's contest, but he'll hit the bench Sunday with southpaw Jose Quintana taking the mound for Colorado. Connor Norby will serve as the designated hitter in the series finale, opening up first base for the newly promoted Deyvison De Los Santos.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Rockies' Edouard Julien: Exiting lineup Sunday

Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Julien served as the Rockies' designated hitter in the first two games of the season, going 1-for-5 with a double. Though he should have a fairly clear path to at-bats while Mickey Moniak (finger) is on the shelf, Julien will be the odd man out of the lineup Sunday. Hunter Goodman will get a day off from catching but stick in the starting nine at DH.

  • Owen Caissie OF | MIA

Marlins' Owen Caissie: Hitting bench against southpaw

Caissie is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

The 23-year-old started the first two games of the season and has gone 4-for-8 with two doubles, a stolen base, two RBI and a run scored, but he'll take a seat Sunday with lefty Jose Quintana pitching for Colorado. However, the left-handed-hitting Caissie doesn't seem to be in a strict platoon, given that he started against left-hander Kyle Freeland on Opening Day. Austin Slater will draw the starting nod in right field in the series finale.

  • Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Settling in at first base

Horwitz will start at first base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Mets.

Heading into spring training, the 28-year-old's role was somewhat muddled following the offseason additions of Marcell Ozuna, Ryan O'Hearn and Brandon Lowe, but Horwitz looks to have settled into a strong-side platoon role at first base. He's occupied the position for the Pirates' first two games against right-handed pitchers, with O'Hearn spelling him Saturday when the Mets sent lefty David Peterson to the hill.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Pirates' Marcell Ozuna: Receiving breather Sunday

Ozuna is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

The veteran slugger will receive the afternoon off after he started the Pirates' first two games of the season and went 1-for-9 with a walk. With Ozuna on the bench, Bryan Reynolds will cede left field to Jake Mangum and shift to designated hitter.
