A.J. Puk RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' A.J. Puk: Undergoes TJ surgery
Diamondbacks Torey Lovullo told reporters Friday that Puk (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Thursday, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
Puk was pulled from his throwing program last week after experiencing left elbow discomfort. He visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Thursday, where it was determined that Tommy John surgery is the best option for the 30-year-old southpaw. Puk will miss the rest of the 2025 season, and given the significance of the procedure, he could miss most -- if not all -- of 2026. He'll end the season with a 3.38 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and four saves across eight innings out of the bullpen.

Roki Sasaki SP | LAD
Dodgers' Roki Sasaki: Moves to 60-day IL
Sasaki (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
The right-hander has already been on the shelf over a month due to a shoulder impingement and recently had his throwing program shut down, so he was already likely to be sidelined beyond 60 days. Sasaki's return timeline is likely to remain murky until he's able to ramp his throwing program back up.

Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Taking seat Friday
Hayes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.
Hayes was also on the bench for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader and has a .558 OPS in June with only one extra-base hit in his past 23 contests. Jared Triolo will receive another start at the hot corner Friday for Pittsburgh.

Adrian Del Castillo DH | ARI
Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Dealing with back issue
Del Castillo was placed on Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list Friday due to lower back discomfort, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
Del Castillo spent over two months on the injured list to start the 2025 season due to a shoulder injury, but just 10 days after being reinstated, Del Castillo is back on the shelf due to a back injury. While the injury isn't expected to be a long-term issue, he'll be sidelined for at least one week.

Connor Phillips RP | CIN
Reds' Connor Phillips: Promoted Friday
The Reds recalled Phillips from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
The right-hander is joining the Reds ahead of Friday's game in St. Louis as Wade Miley (forearm) heads to the injured list. Chase Petty will be added to the MLB roster Saturday to start in place of Miley, so it could be a short stay in the majors for Phillips, who last appeared in the majors in 2023 and had a 6.97 ERA over 20.2 innings.

Matthew Boyd SP | CHC
Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Dealing with bruised shoulder
Manager Craig Counsell said that Boyd left Friday's game against the Mariners due to a bruise on his left shoulder, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.
Boyd made a great catch on a 105-mph comebacker during the fifth inning of Friday's contest, but it seems he didn't quite come away from it unscathed. The 34-year-old southpaw said after the game that he's not too concerned about his shoulder at this point, so he should still be able to make his next scheduled start in St. Louis next week.

Luke Adams 3B | MIL
Brewers' Luke Adams: Lands on 7-day IL
Adams was placed on Double-A Biloxi's 7-day injured list Friday due to a left shoulder contusion, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Adams suffered the injury in Thursday's game against Knoxville on a collision at home plate. He has spent the entire 2025 season in Double-A and is slashing .236/.419/.472 with 10 steals, 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 38 RBI over 258 plate appearances.

Mark Vientos 1B | NYM
Mets' Mark Vientos: Nearing return
Vientos (hamstring) will continue his rehab assignment this weekend and could return as soon as Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Vientos started a rehab assignment Tuesday but has appeared in just one game, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. If all goes well this weekend, Vientos could be back for the start of a three-game set Monday against Atlanta.

Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL
Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Sitting again Friday
Estrada (hand) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.
The veteran infielder will sit for a third consecutive game after being hit by a pitch on the right hand Tuesday. Estrada was diagnosed with a bruise after X-rays came back negative, so he could be back in action this weekend versus Arizona.

Matthew Boyd SP | CHC
Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Strikes out six in no-decision
Boyd did not factor into the decision in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Mariners, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings.
Boyd generated nine swinging strikes and was given a surprisingly early hook at just 76 pitches after making a miraculous catch on a comebacker to record his final out. The outing snapped a streak of four straight quality starts for the southpaw, but he's now gone at least five innings while allowing three earned runs or fewer in 14 of 15 outings this season. He'll take a 2.84 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 79:21 K:BB across 85.2 innings into a road matchup with the Cardinals next week.
