Hunter Greene SP | CIN
Reds' Hunter Greene: Not ready to make rehab start
Greene won't make a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday as planned after he felt renewed tightness in his right groin, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Greene may have had an outside chance at pitching in the Reds' final game before the All-Star break Sunday versus the Rockies if he had made it out of the rehab start no worse for the wear, but the setback with the groin officially closes the door on a first-half return. The right-hander labeled himself as day-to-day and said he underwent another MRI, but the Reds have yet to reveal the findings from his latest medical testing. Once the MRI results are in, the Reds will likely have a clearer idea regarding when Greene can ramp up his throwing again and potentially head out on a rehab assignment. Greene was initially placed on the injured list June 4 due to the Grade 1 right groin strain, and he also required an epidural shortly thereafter to address back soreness.

Dane Myers CF | CIN
Marlins' Dane Myers: Out of Miami lineup
Myers is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Cincinnati.
Myers has maintained his grip on the Marlins' center field job since Derek Hill returned from the injured list last week, but he will give way to Hill for Monday's series opener against the Reds. The 29-year-old Myers is slashing only .182/.250/.200 over his last 16 contests.

JJ Wetherholt 2B | STL
Cardinals' JJ Wetherholt: Heads to Triple-A
The Cardinals promoted Wetherholt from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.
Wetherholt slashed .300/.425/.466 with seven home runs, 14 stolen bases and a 40:44 K:BB over 62 games with Springfield to earn the promotion. He had his first two-home-run game of his career Sunday and had collected a 1.012 OPS since June 1 with Springfield. Wetherholt has split his playing time between shortstop and second base this season, but with Masyn Winn holding down shortstop in the majors, Wetherholt's future is likely at the keystone. While it's possible the 2024 first-round pick could push to join the big club in the second half of this season, a 2026 MLB debut is more likely.

Spencer Horwitz 1B | PIT
Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Resting against lefty
Horwitz is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.
After starting in each of the last eight games, the left-handed-hitting Horwitz will be given the night off while the Royals send southpaw Noah Cameron to the hill for the series opener. Jared Triolo will replace Horwitz at first base and will bat eighth.

Joey Bart C | ATL
Pirates' Joey Bart: On bench again Monday
Bart is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.
After starting behind the dish in the Pirates' first two games of the weekend series in Seattle, Bart sat out Sunday's 1-0 loss, and he'll remain on the bench for Monday's opener in Kansas City while Henry Davis gets another nod at catcher. Batting just .211 with no extra-base hits since returning from the injured list June 17, Bart may have to settle for a timeshare with Davis until his bat begins to heat up.

Oneil Cruz CF | PIT
Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Taking seat versus southpaw
Cruz is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Kansas City.
The left-handed-hitting Cruz has been an everyday player for the bulk of this season, but Monday marks the third straight time he's been absent from the lineup against a traditional left-handed starter (in this case, Noah Cameron). Alexander Canario will handle center field and bat sixth Monday in place of Cruz, who has posted a .444 OPS and a 39.3 percent strikeout rate versus southpaws this season.

Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL
Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Moves up to big club
The Brewers recalled Vaughn from Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
Though he was acquired from the White Sox on June 13, Vaughn had played exclusively at Nashville since the trade but will now get the chance to join Milwaukee after first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move. The absence of Hoskins opens up an everyday spot in the lineup, but rather than leaning on the right-handed Vaughn as the primary option at first base, manager Pat Murphy could be inclined to deploy Vaughn in the short side of a platoon with the left-handed-hitting Jake Bauers. Vaughn had been performing effectively for Nashville prior to his call-up, slashing .259/.338/.500 with three home runs and a 10.8 percent walk rate over 65 plate appearances with the affiliate.

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Move to IL made official
The Brewers placed Hoskins on the 10-day injured list Monday with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain.
Hoskins was hurt during Saturday's loss to the Marlins, and a subsequent MRI revealed the structural damage to his thumb. He'll be eligible to return at the start of the second half, but there's a good chance Hoskins will need more time than that to recover. Andrew Vaughn has been summoned from Triple-A Nashville to take Hoskins' spot on the roster, and Vaughn will see action at first base along with Jake Bauers while Hoskins is shelved.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand 1B | BAL
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Losing out on playing time
Encarnacion-Strand is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.
With Noelvi Marte returning from the injured list Friday, the Reds' position-player group is now back to full strength with the exception of outfielder Jake Fraley (shoulder), who remains on the shelf. As a result of the logjam in the infield, Encarnacion-Strand has unsurprisingly found himself as the odd man out of the lineup more frequently. Encarnacion-Strand will head to the bench for the third time in four games since Marte's activation.
