  • Reds' Dane Myers: Homers twice in twin bill

Myers went 3-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs across both games of Monday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. Myers provided Cincinnati's only run in Game 1 with a fourth-inning solo homer. He began the nightcap on the bench but appeared as a pinch hitter with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Reds down by a run. Myers came through in a huge way, swatting his second solo long ball of the day to tie the score. The power outburst was pretty unexpected given that Myers hadn't homered in 51 games coming into Monday. In fact, entering the twin bill he was batting a meager .139 (5-for-36) through his first 11 contests in August. He's been in the starting lineup in six of the Reds' past nine games, so Meyers has mostly been allowed to work through his slump.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Sitting out after homer in first game

Myers is not in the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals. Myers had two of the Reds' three hits -- including a solo home run for his team's only run -- in the first game of the twin bill, but he'll begin the nightcap on the bench. TJ Friedl will occupy center field for Cincinnati.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Posts steal Monday

Myers went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's 8-0 loss to the Mariners. Myers has started three consecutive games in center field, which is putting a pinch on TJ Friedl's playing time. All of those starts have been against right-handed pitchers. On the year, Myers is batting .262 with a .758 OPS, six steals, three home runs, 14 RBI and 19 runs scored over 149 plate appearances.

The two will share center field while Blake Dunn (elbow) remains sidelined.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Returns from IL

The Reds activated Myers (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Friday. Myers landed on the IL in late June with a left shoulder contusion but is ready to go after playing a couple rehab games this week. He is slated to serve on the short side of a platoon in center field with TJ Friedl.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Receives injection

Myers received an injection in the AC joint of his left shoulder Saturday, MLB.com reports. Myers is currently on the injured list after slamming into the wall while making a running catch a week ago. Prior to his injury, Myers had been poised for a regular run in center field because of an injury to Blake Dunn (elbow). With both players on the IL, the Reds are getting by with TJ Friedl and Matt McLain in center field.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Sent to hospital for evaluation

Myers (shoulder) was sent to the hospital for further evaluation after he was carted off the field in the fourth inning of Monday's game against the Brewers, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. He went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI prior to departing the contest. Myers' left shoulder absorbed the brunt of a collision with a fence while making a spectacular catch in center field. Cincinnati manager Terry Francona noted after the game that Myers was in a significant amount of pain, so the team sent him to the hospital to get checked out. Francona added that initial X-rays on Myers returned negative, but the outfielder is expected to undergo further testing. The club should have an update on Myers' status Tuesday, but even if he avoided a major injury, he seems likely to require a stint on the injured list.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Exits early Monday

Myers was carted off the field during the bottom of the fourth inning of Monday's game against the Brewers after colliding with the outfield fence, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. He went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI prior to leaving the game. Myers made a spectacular catch on a line drive out to the warning track, but he collided with the wall after securing the baseball and was unable to leave the field under his own power. The nature of Myers' injury is unclear at this time. TJ Friedl entered the game in center field following Myers' departure.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Remains in center field

Myers started in center field and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Pirates. Myers replaced Blake Dunn (elbow) during Friday's game when the latter was removed and remained in center field Saturday. An MRI on Dunn's elbow Saturday did not lend clarity to his condition, and he could head back to Cincinnati for further testing. Until Dunn is ready to return, Myers is expected to get most of the work in center field. He's slashing .252/.356/.374 with three home runs, 13 RBI, five steals and 18 runs over 135 plate appearances (62 games).

Myers went 1-for-1 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 5-4 win over Minnesota. Myers delivered the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning after entering the contest as a pinch hitter. It was the second time this season he's delivered a game-deciding run off the bench. Myers has mainly served as a late-inning replacement for the Reds, going 7-for-26 (.269) with a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored over 19 games (four starts).

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Plays hero Saturday

Myers went 1-for-1 with an RBI in Saturday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Red Sox. Myers played the hero with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning. He entered the game in the ninth inning as a defensive substitution and stuck around after Emilio Pagan blew the save. Myers has come off the bench in two straight games to begin the year, having served as a pinch hitter for Will Benson in the Reds' Opening Day loss.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Belts homer

Myers started in center field and went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's spring game against the Athletics. Reds manager Terry Francona is toying with the idea of Myers in center field and moving TJ Friedl, the team's primary starter in center, to a corner outfield spot. That's an alignment the manager used last Thursday, and Francona told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that he'll do that a few more times this spring. Myers could either serve as a right-handed hitting complement to Friedl, or the two elite outfield defenders could play the same day.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Good fit for Reds

Myers is expected to make the Reds' Opening Day roster due to his superb defense and his ability to hit left-handed pitchers, after he hit .297/.360/.456 against them over the last three seasons, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Whenever the Reds haven't had TJ Friedl available for a given game, they have had to compromise on defense in center field, but Myers addresses that shortcoming nicely. The only thing working against Myers is that the team otherwise has so many right-handed hitters, which might encourage them to carry both JJ Bleday and Will Benson instead.
