  • Alek Thomas CF | LAD

Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Taking seat Wednesday

Thomas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

The left-handed-hitting Thomas will get a rare day off against a righty (Chris Paddack) while the Diamondbacks clear room in the lineup for Jorge Barrosa, who will occupy center field in the series finale. Thomas started in both of the first two games of the series, going 1-for-6 with a solo home run and a walk.

  • Jarred Kelenic RF | TEX

Braves' Jarred Kelenic: Recalled from Triple-A

Atlanta recalled Kelenic from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Kelenic will join Atlanta as a replacement on the active roster for the injured Ronald Acuna (Achilles) and could see plenty of action in right field while Acuna recuperates. The 26-year-old Kelenic was sent down to Gwinnett in late April after slashing .167/.231/.300 with a 35.4 percent strikeout rate, and he hasn't performed much better at Gwinnett, hitting only .217/.289/.322 over 305 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Ronald Acuna: Out with Achilles inflammation

Atlanta placed Acuna on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right Achilles inflammation.

Acuna suffered the injury during Tuesday's 9-6 loss to Kansas City. He appears to have avoided a significant setback on the health front but will undergo an MRI on Wednesday to confirm that's the case, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. If Acuna does receive good news with his MRI, he could return in 2-to-3 weeks. Jarred Kelenic has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Acuna's spot on the active roster, and he could see action in right field along with Eli White while Acuna is sidelined.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Back in lineup Wednesday

Suarez (finger) will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game versus the Tigers.

Suarez exited Monday's 5-1 loss after being hit on the right index finger with a pitch, but test results ruled out a fracture, and he's back in the lineup after missing only one game. An impending free agent, Suarez is highly likely to be traded before Thursday's deadline.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Participates in baseball activities

Bohm (ribs) took dry swings, hit off a practice tee and fielded groundballs prior to Tuesday's game against the White Sox, per MLB.com.

Bohm also ran and threw among the other baseball activities, which is an encouraging sign in his recovery from a fractured left rib. The corner infielder remains without a definitive timetable for a return to Philadelphia's roster, but it's possible his absence will extend into mid-August. In the meantime, Otto Kemp should continue to serve as the Phillies' primary third baseman.

  • Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: In midst of throwing progression

Graterol (shoulder) is going through a throwing progression at the Dodgers' complex in Arizona, per MLB.com.

Graterol continues to rehab from the shoulder labrum surgery he underwent last November. The fireballing reliever is hoping to return to the Dodgers' bullpen before the end of the season, but he probably won't be able to do so any earlier than September.

  • Roki Sasaki SP | LAD

Dodgers' Roki Sasaki: Not quite ready to face hitters

Sasaki (shoulder) is expected to throw at least one more bullpen session before facing living hitters, per MLB.com.

The Dodgers are being careful not to rush Sasaki back, so the rookie right-hander will toss at least one more bullpen after getting up to 39 pitches in his most recent session. Sasaki hasn't pitched in a game since May 9, and he's presumably still several weeks away from being activated. According to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, Sasaki will eventually be slated for 3-to-4 minor-league rehab starts, during which he'll work up to the five-inning, 75-pitch range. The hope is that he'll be ready to return before the end of August.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Hitless in first rehab game

Muncy (knee) played six innings at third base for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

Muncy may have had a little rust -- he also committed a fielding error -- in his first game action since July 2, but this was nonetheless a big step toward a return to the major-league club. The veteran third baseman was initially projected to be out at least six weeks when he landed on the IL, but he now appears set to beat that timeframe by a considerable margin. According to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, Muncy will likely be activated for the start of the Dodgers' next homestand, which begins Monday, Aug. 4 against St. Louis.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Reaches 20-homer mark

Machado went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Mets.

Machado came up short of a multi-hit effort for the first time in seven games, but his one knock was a big one that provided the last runs of the contest in the seventh inning. During his hot stretch, the third baseman has gone 16-for-29 (.552) with six extra-base hits and nine RBI. Machado has reached the 20-homer mark for the 10th straight full-length season and has added a .301/.361/.511 slash line, 69 RBI, 64 runs scored and nine stolen bases through 108 games this season. His production so far gives him a chance to challenge for 30 homers and 100 RBI by the end of the campaign.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Fine in Tuesday's start

Bergert allowed one run on two hits and four walks while striking out four over four innings in a no-decision versus the Mets on Tuesday.

Bergert threw 50 of 83 pitches for strikes, with the four walks matching his season high. He's fallen short of the five-inning mark in each of his last four big-league appearances, though a forearm injury abbreviated one of those outings. The right-hander is at a 2.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 34:18 K:BB through 35.2 innings over 11 appearances (seven starts) this season. He's at 80.1 innings between San Diego and Triple-A El Paso this year, so he should be able to comfortably pass his career high of 105.2 frames from 2023 as long as he stays healthy. It's unclear if this effort was enough for Bergert to keep a spot in the rotation -- if he gets another turn, it's tentatively slated to be on the road in Arizona next week.
