Giants' Jose Butto: Sent to Giants in Rogers deal

The Giants acquired Butto, right-hander Blade Tidwell and outfielder Drew Gilbert from the Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Tyler Rogers, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Butto was a weapon for the Mets in relief in 2024 but has regressed this season, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 41:22 K:BB over 47 innings. While Butto is likely to take Rogers' spot in the Giants bullpen, he has past starting experience and could be a rotation option if San Francisco opts to have him get stretched back out.

Mets' Tyler Rogers: Going to Mets in trade

The Mets acquired Rogers from the Giants on Wednesday in exchange for right-handers Jose Butto and Blade Tidwell and outfielder Drew Gilbert, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Rogers has been one of the most effective and durable relievers in baseball over the last several years and has posted a 1.80 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 38:4 K:BB over 50 innings for the Giants this season. The submarine-style hurler is making $5.25 million in 2025 and is an impending free agent. He'll likely slot in as the top setup man in New York in front of closer Edwin Diaz.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Exiting starting nine

Edman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Cincinnati.

Edman homered Tuesday in his return to action after missing Monday's game with an ankle injury. The Dodgers haven't provided any indication that Edman suffered a setback, so his absence Wednesday appears to be a measure of giving him two days of rest since the team is off Thursday. Miguel Rojas will start at second base and Alex Freeland will man third base for the Dodgers in the series finale in Cincinnati.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Reds' Jake Fraley: Taking seat Wednesday

Fraley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are sending right-hander Shohei Ohtani to the hill Wednesday, but the left-handed-hitting Fraley will still hit the bench for the second time in the series. Noelvi Marte will get the start in right field for the series finale, and he could push Fraley for playing time moving forward after the Reds swung a deal Wednesday to acquire Ke'Bryan Hayes, who is expected to displace Marte as the team's everyday third baseman.

  • Juan Soto LF | NYM

Mets' Juan Soto: Targeting Friday return

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that he anticipates Soto (foot) returning to the lineup for Friday's series opener versus the Giants, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "I think we dodged a bullet here," Mendoza said, in reference to the bruised left foot Soto suffered during Tuesday's 7-1 loss to the Padres.

Soto was forced out of Tuesday's game after fouling a ball off of his foot in the fourth inning, but X-rays came back negative, and the outfielder's soreness already seems to be subsiding a bit. Though Soto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale in San Diego, he was scheduled to take some swings in the batting cage prior to the game and could be available off the bench, per Laura Albanese of Newsday. Even if the Mets choose to stay away from Soto on Wednesday, he's expected to make enough improvement after Thursday's off day to rejoin the lineup Friday.

  • Mickey Moniak LF | COL

Rockies' Mickey Moniak: Idle against southpaw

Moniak is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

With the Guardians sending a southpaw (Kolby Allard) to the mound for the second day in a row, the left-handed-hitting Moniak will be on the bench for a second consecutive game. Tyler Freeman will cover right field in Moniak's absence.

  • Jared Triolo SS | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Set to be recalled

The Pirates will recall Triolo from Triple-A Indianapolis, and he is expected to serve as their primary third baseman following the trade of Ke'Bryan Hayes on Wednesday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The Pirates have an afternoon game in San Francisco on Wednesday and are idle Thursday, so the promotion of Triolo likely won't be official until Friday before a weekend series in Colorado. Triolo has slashed a paltry .158/.253/.266 in 55 contests at the big-league level this season but will offer the Pirates a steady glove at the hot corner.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Resting in series finale

Flores is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

After going 1-for-8 while starting in the first two games of the series, Flores will get a breather for the finale. The Giants will go with Rafael Devers at designated hitter and Dominic Smith at first base while Flores sits.

  • Tommy Pham LF | NYM

Pirates' Tommy Pham: Receiving afternoon off

Pham is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Pham is a candidate to get moved ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, so the Pirates are likely holding him out Wednesday to avoid him succumbing to any injury that would nix a potential deal. Jack Suwinski will pick up the start in left field in place of Pham, who has likely improved his trade stock by slashing .405/.463/.568 with five extra-base hits in 10 games since the All-Star break.

  • Taylor Rogers RP | MIN

Pirates' Taylor Rogers: Acquired by Pirates

The Pirates acquired Rogers, shortstop Sammy Stafura and cash considerations from the Reds on Wednesday in exchange for third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Rogers has collected a 2.45 ERA and 34:19 K:BB over 33 innings this season for the Reds. Given that he's an impending free agent and the Pirates aren't playoff contenders, the lefty reliever could be flipped to another team before Thursday's trade deadline.
