Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Booted from 40-man roster
The Pirates designated Borucki for assignment Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Borucki has stumbled to a 5.28 ERA in 30.2 innings with the Pirates this season. The 31-year-old hasn't been able to replicate the success he saw in 2023 during his first year in Pittsburgh, when he notched a 2.45 ERA across 40.1 innings. Borucki will hit waivers, but if he goes unclaimed, he could remain in the organization.

Cam Sanders RP | PIT
Pirates' Cam Sanders: Sent back to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Sanders had his contract selected Aug. 5 and appeared in five games with the Pirates before Friday's move. The 28-year-old reliever didn't allow a run in four of his five outings, but he yielded five runs in one-third of an inning against the Reds in his other appearance. Evan Sisk and Colin Holderman will join the big-league bullpen as part of Friday's slew of roster moves.

Evan Sisk RP | PIT
Pirates' Evan Sisk: Set for Pirates debut
The Pirates recalled Sisk from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Sisk was acquired from Kansas City on July 31. He'll be making his Pirates debut when he gets into a game. Sisk had posted a 3.77 ERA in 28.2 innings with the Royals' Triple-A affiliate in Omaha, but he's surrendered six runs in 5.1 innings so far with Indianapolis.

Pirates' Colin Holderman: Brought up to bigs

Dylan Crews RF | WAS
Nationals' Dylan Crews: Swipes bag in return
Crews went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Phillies.
Activated from the IL earlier in the day, Crews wasted little time proving he is fully recovered from an oblique strain, singling in the first inning and swiping second base. The 23-year-old got the start in right field and batted second in his first big-league action since May 20, and he'll likely get a long look in a prominent spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching down the stretch. Crews is slashing just .199/.271/.354 through 46 contests on the season, but he's flashed his fantasy potential with seven homers and 12 stolen bases.

Ryan Helsley RP | BAL
Mets' Ryan Helsley: Struggles with new team continue
Helsley (3-3) took the loss Thursday against Atlanta, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in an inning of relief. He failed to strike out a batter.
Called upon to protect a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning, Helsley issued a one-out walk before serving up back-to-back doubles to Michael Harris and Ozzie Albies. Helsley has had a rough start to his tenure as Edwin Diaz's main setup man, coughing up seven runs (albeit only three earned) over six appearances and five innings while getting charged with two blown saves and two losses. The Mets won't give up on the trade-deadline acquisition, but Helsley could begin to cede eighth-inning duties to other relievers until he gets back on track.

Carson Kelly C | CHC
Cubs' Carson Kelly: On bench Friday
Kelly isn't part of the starting nine for Friday's game against the Pirates.
Kelly is out of the lineup for the second time in three games, yielding to Reese McGuire on Friday. Kelly had started the prior five consecutive contests, and he's slashing .270/.367/.471 in 308 plate appearances this season.

Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Stays hot in Thursday's loss
Edwards went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Guardians.
The switch hitter extended his hitting streak to nine games and produced his seventh multi-hit performance during the hot streak, and he's batting a blistering .452 (19-for-42) during that span. Edwards has been locked in since the beginning of July, slashing .345/.379/.479 over his last 39 contests with two homers, nine steals, 15 RBI and 29 runs as the Marlins' everyday leadoff hitter.

Blake Perkins CF | MIL
Brewers' Blake Perkins: Lands on bereavement list
The Brewers placed Perkins (personal) on the bereavement list Thursday.
Perkins will step away from the team for a few days for personal reasons. Players can remain on the bereavement list for 3-to-7 games, so the outfielder should be back with the Brewers sometime next week. Brandon Lockridge could pick up some extra starts in center field in the meantime.

Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL
Braves' Ozzie Albies: Pops homer No. 10
Albies went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Mets.
The second baseman got Atlanta on the board with a solo shot off Kodai Senga in the fourth inning, then won the game in the eighth with an RBI double to bring home Michael Harris. Albies ended a 23-game homer drought with the long ball, his 10th of the season, but he's been looking better at the plate of late -- over his last 16 contests, he's slashing .281/.324/.391 with two steals, seven runs and seven RBI.
