Drew Gilbert CF | SF
Giants' Drew Gilbert: Absent from Giants' lineup
Gilbert is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in San Diego.
It's righty Dylan Cease on the bump for the Padres, but the left-handed-hitting Gilbert will nevertheless begin the festivities on the bench. He's just 3-for-24 with a 7:0 K:BB to begin his big-league career. Luis Matos will patrol right field for San Francisco.

Josh Bell DH | MIN
Nationals' Josh Bell: Absent from lineup
Bell is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Bell, who slugged his 16th home run of the season in Wednesday's victory over New York, will get a routine day off for the series finale. James Wood will occupy the designated-hitter spot and Andres Chaparro will start at first base Thursday.

Erik Miller RP | SF
Giants' Erik Miller: Moved to 60-day IL
The Giants transferred Miller (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Miller experienced a setback with his left elbow injury last week on a rehab assignment. He would be eligible for activation from the IL in early September, but the lefty will not resume throwing for another couple weeks, so his season might very well be over.

Kai-Wei Teng RP | HOU
Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Going back to minors
The Giants optioned Teng to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.
Teng has had an excellent season in the minors, but thus far that hasn't translated at the big-league level, as he's posted an 8.78 ERA and 12:9 K:BB over 13.1 frames covering three starts and one relief outing. He'll try to get back on track and earn another opportunity later this season.

Emil Morales SS | LAD
Dodgers' Emil Morales: Mashing for Quakes
Morales is slashing .338/.417/.622 with five home runs, four steals and a 23.8 percent strikeout rate in 18 games since getting promoted to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on July 25.
Morales has gotten better as his age-18 season has gone on, as he had a 28.3 percent strikeout rate and 127 wRC+ in 59 Arizona Complex League games and has cut his strikeout rate while upping his production (177 wRC+) in his first tour of the Cal League. Morales has played the majority of his games at shortstop this season, but as he continues filling out his large 6-foot-3 frame, he will likely slide down the defensive spectrum. Still, he's shown enough offensive upside at Single-A to potentially profile at any position.

Jackson Merrill CF | SD
Padres' Jackson Merrill: Missing fourth straight contest
Merrill (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants.
It's the fourth consecutive start Merrill has missed as he works his way through a bone bruise in his left ankle. Merrill undoubtedly will be aiming to return to action Friday for the start of a big series versus the rival Dodgers, but it doesn't seem to be a given that he'll be ready. Ramon Laureano will shift over to center field and Gavin Sheets will get a start in left field for the Padres on Thursday.

Mickey Moniak LF | COL
Rockies' Mickey Moniak: Idle against lefty
Moniak is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.
The left-handed-hitting Moniak had been included in the lineup for each of the last six games while the Rockies went up against right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Thursday with southpaw Clayton Kershaw toeing the rubber for Los Angeles. Tyler Freeman will cover right field in place of Moniak, which opens up a spot in the lineup for Kyle Farmer at designated hitter.
