  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Out again versus lefty

Bell is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Yankees.

Southpaw Max Fried will toe the rubber for the Yankees, marking the third straight time that the switch-hitting Bell has been out of the lineup against a lefty. Andres Chaparro will play first base in the series finale.

  • Daylen Lile LF | WAS

Nationals' Daylen Lile: Remains out Wednesday

Lile (illness) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Lile will be on the bench for a fourth straight game Wednesday while he recovers from an illness, though the left-handed-hitting outfielder may not have started even if fully healthy since the Yankees are sending southpaw Max Fried to the bump. With an off day on tap Thursday, Lile should have a good chance at being ready to go for Friday's series opener versus the Rays.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Braves' Cal Quantrill: Cleared for next start

Quantrill (calf) is slated to start Thursday's series opener against the Phillies in Philadelphia, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

After being claimed off waivers from the Marlins last week, Quantrill made his Atlanta debut during Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Mets. Quantrill, who took his 11th loss of the season, struck out three and was charged with three earned runs on five hits and five walks across 4.2 innings before departing due to calf cramps. Atlanta described Quantrill's removal from the contest as precautionary, and after receiving treatment to address the issue, the right-hander will be ready to take the hill Thursday on normal rest.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Braves' Nick Allen: Receiving afternoon off

Allen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Vidal Brujan will cover shortstop for the matinee contest while Allen rests after starting in each of Atlanta's last three games. Allen is a dependable defender at shortstop, but he's gone 0-for-16 at the plate over his last seven starts to bring his season-long batting line down to .220/.285/.249 across 394 plate appearances.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Braves' Jake Fraley: Making team debut Wednesday

Fraley (knee) will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game in Miami.

Despite being claimed off waivers from the Reds on Aug. 19, Fraley didn't play for Atlanta at any point over the past week. Fraley had suffered a hyperextended right knee in his final appearance with the Reds on Aug. 17, but Atlanta didn't deem the injury serious enough to place him on the injured list once he was claimed. Though his inclusion in the lineup indicates that he's healthy, Fraley is likely to see limited playing time for Atlanta down the stretch while all of Jurickson Profar, Michael Harris and Ronald Acuna are available to play the outfield.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Taking seat Wednesday

Ozuna is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami.

Ozuna has followed a hot stretch with another slump, having gone 3-for-30 with 13 strikeouts over his last nine contests. He'll get a day off to regroup while Ronald Acuna serves as Atlanta's designated hitter and Jake Fraley (knee) plays right field.

  • Josh Simpson RP | SEA

Marlins' Josh Simpson: Sent back to minors

The Marlins optioned Simpson to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.

One day after being torched for seven runs while retiring just one batter in an 11-2 loss to Atlanta, Simpson finds himself back in the minors. Seth Martinez and Freddy Tarnok were called up from Jacksonville to supplement the Marlins bullpen.

  • Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA

Marlins' Freddy Tarnok: Back up with big club

The Marlins recalled Tarnok from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.

Tarnok has been lights out at Jacksonville lately, tossing 14.1 scoreless innings with an 18:6 K:BB across his last 10 appearances. The 26-year-old could work his way into high-leverage situations but also offers the ability to go multiple innings.

  • Janson Junk SP | MIA

Marlins' Janson Junk: Out with ulnar nerve irritation

The Marlins placed Junk on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right ulnar nerve irritation.

Junk departed his most recent start Saturday against the Blue Jays with discomfort in his pitching arm, and he's subsequently been diagnosed with the ulnar nerve issue. The righty will be eligible for activation Sept. 8, but it's too soon to know whether he has a chance to be ready to go on that date.

  • Ryan Ritter 2B | COL

    Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Scores twice

Ritter went 0-for-2 with two runs scored Tuesday against the Astros.

Ritter has started 10 of Colorado's last 11 games since returning from the injured list. Seven of those games have come on the road, and he's managed to go 10-for-34 with two doubles, a triple, five RBI and six runs scored.
