  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Receiving rest Wednesday

Kelly is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Miguel Amaya will step in behind the plate for Kelly, who will be rested after making starts each of the past three days. Kelly is off to a scorching start to April, having recorded a hit in each of his starts while slashing .364/.488/.545 in 10 games overall.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Shelved with shoulder inflammation

The Rockies placed Freeland on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to left shoulder inflammation.

Freeland technically drew a start in Sunday's game against the Padres, but the injury resulted in him being scratched without throwing a pitch in that outing. After a few days of rest, Freeland didn't bounce back well enough to avoid the IL. The veteran left-hander will be eligible to rejoin the Colorado rotation before the end of this month, though it's unclear whether he will be cleared to start by that date.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Rockies' Jose Quintana: Activated for Wednesday's start

The Rockies activated Quintana (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Quintana will start Wednesday's contest at Houston in what will be his second appearance in a Rockies uniform. The veteran left-hander did not make any rehab appearances, so it's unclear what kind of workload he will be prepared for Wednesday. Quintana missed the last two-plus weeks with a strained hamstring, which he sustained during his season debut March 29 in Miami while giving up two earned runs over 4.1 innings.

  • Jorbit Vivas 3B | WAS

Nationals' Jorbit Vivas: Playing time on upswing

Vivas will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Vivas will stick in the lineup for a fourth straight game, this time shifting over to the keystone after manning third base in each of the previous three contests. While the left-handed hitter's playing time against left-handed pitching is likely to remain limited, he might have earned himself more frequent opportunities versus righties after getting on base at a .406 clip in 33 plate appearances against them so far in 2026.

  • Nasim Nunez 2B | WAS

    Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Sitting Wednesday

Nunez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Jorbit Vivas will fill in at second base for Nunez, who will head to the bench after a stretch of four consecutive starts. Nunez is batting just .212 with one extra-base hit over 58 plate appearances this year, but he's provided value for fantasy managers who have rostered him primarily for his speed (seven steals in eight attempts).

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Exiting starting lineup

Ramirez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.

Ramirez will be getting just his second day off of the season, as he's been busy between catching and designated-hitter duties. Liam Hicks will start behind the plate and bat cleanup for the Marlins on Wednesday.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Looks sharper in fourth rehab start

Wheeler (shoulder) struck out nine and allowed four hits and no walks while allowing three runs in 5.2 innings during his fourth rehab start with Double-A Reading on Tuesday.

Wheeler built himself up to 72 pitches Tuesday, an encouraging sign during the final stages of his rehab from last year's venous thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. The right-hander is next slated to make a fifth and perhaps final rehab appearance with Reading on Sunday. Manager Rob Thomson did note Tuesday that Wheeler could make a sixth rehab start, per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, depending on how the hurler fares in his outing Sunday.

  • Jose Tena DH | WAS

Nationals' Jose Tena: Playing time trending down

Tena is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Tena has started in just one of the Nationals' last six games, sitting on three occasions against left-handed starters and twice against righties. The 25-year-old has posted a modest .665 OPS over 28 plate appearances on the season and may have to settle for more of a part-time role if Washington elects to open up playing time for Jorbit Vivas (.814 OPS in 40 plate appearances).

  • Jacob Young CF | WAS

Nationals' Jacob Young: On bench Wednesday

Young is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Joey Wiemer will receive the start in center field for Washington, but Young could be a candidate to replace Wiemer once right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski is working in bulk relief for Pittsburgh after left-handed opener Mason Montgomery exits the contest. Before striking out twice as part of an 0-for-4 night in Tuesday's 5-4 win, Young had recorded at least one hit in each of his previous five starts, including three extra-base knocks (one home run, two doubles).

  • Phillies' Justin Crawford: Idle for series finale

Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Phillies will hold the left-handed-hitting Crawford out for just the second time this season, shielding him from Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga while adding another right-handed bat (Otto Kemp) to the starting outfield. Crawford has done well early on to hold his own at the plate with a .288 average and .755 OPS, but the rookie hasn't offered much of an impact on the bases (one steal in two attempts) after swiping 46 bags in 113 Triple-A games in 2025.
