  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Royals' Adam Frazier: Activated from IL

Frazier (thumb) has returned from his rehab assignment and was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Frazier required only one rehab game with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, before being cleared to return. Frazier is slashing .211/.297/.299 across 165 plate appearances with the Royals and should mix in at third base and in right field.

  • Josh H. Smith LF | TOR

Rangers' Josh Smith: Taking seat Friday

Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Tampa Bay.

Smith will get a rare day off after making 13 consecutive starts. Jonathan Ornelas will bat ninth and play third base for Friday's series opener. Over his last four games, Smith is 6-for-16 with two runs and two RBI. Per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Smith felt a bit of discomfort after his last plate appearance Thursday night but didn't offer any specifics on Smith's health.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

    Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Idle Friday

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Rocchio will get a breather Friday after making four consecutive starts at shortstop. In his place, Gabriel Arias will play short and bat eighth.

  • Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Sitting against left-hander

Abreu is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Yankees.

With southpaw Nestor Cortes toeing the slab for the Yankees, the left-handed hitting Abreu will begin this one on the bench. Rob Refsnyder will cover right field.

  • David Hamilton 3B | MIL

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Not in Boston lineup

Hamilton is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.

Hamilton has now started just two of Boston's last six contests. He and Enmanuel Valdez have been sharing starts at second base against righties, but it will be Valdez at the keystone Friday versus lefty Nestor Cortes.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW

White Sox's Korey Lee: Sitting out Friday

Lee is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Miami.

Lee and Martin Maldonado have now alternated starts at catcher over the last five games. It will be Maldonado behind the plate for Drew Thorpe on Friday.

  • Wes Parsons RP | CLE

Guardians' Wes Parsons: Booted from 40-man roster

The Guardians designated Parsons for assignment Friday.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Spencer Howard, who was acquired via trade Friday. Parsons has posted a career 6.84 ERA over 38 appearances across parts of four major-league seasons.

  • Spencer Howard SP | CLE

Guardians' Spencer Howard: Traded to Cleveland

The Guardians acquired Howard from the Giants on Friday in exchange for cash considerations.

The right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Giants after holding a 5.63 ERA over seven appearances -- including two starts -- in 2024. Howard doesn't have any minor-league options left, so he will go directly onto the Guardians' 26-man active roster and will presumably work in a long-relief role.

  • Scott Effross RP | DET

Yankees' Scott Effross: Logs fifth rehab outing

Effross (back) tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, allowing one walk and striking out one batter.

The appearance was Effross's fifth in a rehab stint that began June 19. The righty reliever is working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in October of 2022 as well as back surgery that took place last December. Effross has tallied a 2.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB over 6.1 frames in his rehab assignment thus far and is expected to be ready to return to the big-league bullpen after the All-Star break.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: On bench Friday

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.

Jeffers will get a breather Friday after notching three hits, including a two-run homer and an RBI double, during Thursday's win over Detroit. Christian Vazquez will catch and bat ninth against Houston.
