  • Paolo Espino RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Paolo Espino: Called up ahead of start

The Blue Jays recalled Espino from Triple-A Buffalo ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday in Baltimore.

Espino made two relief appearances in April for the Blue Jays but will be making his first start with the club and his first in the majors since the 2022 season. After returning from Buffalo's 7-day injured list July 4, Espino didn't cover more than four innings in any of his subsequent three outings prior to his call-up, so he could struggle to reach the five innings he would need to hit Wednesday to qualify for a win. The Blue Jays could look to Yariel Rodriguez to provide length behind Espino out of the bullpen.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW

White Sox's Korey Lee: Absent from lineup

Lee is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Lee is getting some rest for Wednesday's afternoon game after catching all nine innings of Tuesday night's 4-3 loss. Chuckie Robinson will start behind the plate in the series finale.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Blue Jays' Ryan Yarbrough: Expected to join rotation

Yarbrough is expected to work out of the rotation once he joins the Blue Jays, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Acquired from the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, Yarbrough has made all 32 of his appearances out of the bullpen this season, but he has extensive experience as a starter and bulk reliever from his time in Tampa Bay. He posted a 3.74 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:25 K:BB through 67.1 innings for the Dodgers in 2024, but he's unlikely to maintain those ratios in a larger role -- he has a 4.74 ERA over 68 career starts.

  • Dylan Moore 1B | PHI

Mariners' Dylan Moore: Drives in three Tuesday

Moore went 2-for-3 with a three-run double, another two-bagger, a stolen base and a walk in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

The hot-hitting Moore delivered a clutch double in the fifth inning with the Mariners having just forged a one-run lead, driving home Jorge Polanco, Victor Robles (hip) and Randy Arozarena. The double pushed Moore's RBI total to seven over his last five games, while also extending his hitting streak to five games. The 31-year-old has started putting good wood on the ball again following a quiet stretch earlier in July, as he's laced four doubles in the last three contests alone.

  • Luis Robert CF | BAL

White Sox's Luis Robert: Taking seat Wednesday

Robert is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Royals.

Robert ultimately stayed put ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, and though he'll remain with the White Sox through at least the end of the season, he'll get a breather Wednesday. Dominic Fletcher will patrol center field in place of Robert, who reached base five times in the first two games of the series.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Massey is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.

The White Sox have a right-hander in Drew Thorpe on the rubber, but the left-handed-hitting Massey will nonetheless begin the contest on the bench. With Massey out of the lineup, Freddy Fermin will serve as the Royals' designated hitter, while Maikel Garcia starts at second base.

  • Jose Siri LF | LAA

Rays' Jose Siri: Hitting bench amid slump

Siri is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Siri will hit the bench for the second time in three games while he's yet to break out of his ongoing funk at the plate. Over his last five starts, Siri has gone 1-for-18 with nine strikeouts and no walks. Jonny DeLuca will spell him in center field and bat seventh.

  • Ian Hamilton RP | ATL

Yankees' Ian Hamilton: To throw live batting practice soon

Hamilton (lat) is expected to be cleared to throw live batting practice soon, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Hamilton has been shelved since mid-June with a right lat strain but is almost ready to take the next step in his recovery. There's no timetable for the reliever's return yet, but he wouldn't appear far off from a rehab assignment if all goes well.

  • Jose Caballero SS | NYY

Rays' Jose Caballero: Playing regularly in infield

Caballero will start at third base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Caballero's time as an everyday player appeared to have reached its end when Yandy Diaz returned from the restricted list Friday, but the Rays' decision to trade away Randy Arozarena to the Mariners looks to have kept Caballero's window for playing time open. He'll be part of the lineup for the fourth time in five games since Diaz's return.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | LAD

Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Receiving rest Wednesday

Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

After going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while playing all nine innings behind the plate in Tuesday night's 9-3 win, Rortvedt will rest up for the day game Wednesday. Alex Jackson will draw the start at catcher in his stead.
