  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Day-to-day with hyperextended knee

Rays manager Kevin Cash said after Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Marlins that Palacios is nursing a hyperextended right knee and is considered day-to-day, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Palacios was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Marlins after just two innings with the injury. Cash noted that the utility player will be re-evaluated Thursday before the team heads out on its road trip, but at least for the time being, Palacios looks to have avoided a serious injury.

  • Mitch Haniger RF | SEA

Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Heading to bench Wednesday

Haniger is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Haniger will hit the bench for the afternoon contest after he had started in each of Seattle's last six games while going 4-for-20 with a solo home run and five walks. The Mariners will likely continue to open up a lineup spot for Haniger against left-handed pitching, but his starting opportunities versus righties may be more sporadic, especially once Julio Rodriguez (ankle) and Dominic Canzone (adductor) return from the injured list.

  • Victor Robles RF | SEA

Mariners' Victor Robles: Not starting Wednesday

Robles (hip) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Robles will get his first day off since July 11 while he manages a hip injury, which resulted in his early exit from Tuesday's 10-6 win. Manager Scott Servais hasn't suggested that the hip issue is anything that will keep Robles out beyond Wednesday's contest, and the 27-year-old will benefit from the Mariners having an off day Thursday before the club returns to action Friday versus the Phillies. Josh Rojas will draw the leadoff assignment Wednesday after Robles had set the table for Seattle in each of the previous five contests.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Leaves game after HBP on wrist

Westburg was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Blue Jays after the fifth inning following a hit-by-pitch on the right wrist, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Westburg initially remained in the game after being struck by a 95-mile-per-hour Yerry Rodriguez fastball in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring a run on the Jackson Holliday grand slam. However, he was then removed when the Orioles took the field for the top of the sixth, with Ramon Urias taking over at third base. Baltimore should have more on Westburg's status soon. He went 0-for-2 in three plate appearances before departing.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Exits with knee discomfort

The Rays announced that Palacios was removed after two innings in Wednesday's game against the Marlins due to right knee discomfort, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

In his lone plate appearance in the bottom of the second inning, Palacios reached base on a walk, then proceeded to steal his 19th base of the season. Palacios looked to have injured his knee while sliding into second, but he was able to stay in the game and ultimately came around to score on Jonny DeLuca's RBI triple. However, Palacios remained in the dugout when the Rays took the field for the top of the third, with Dylan Carlson coming off the bench to replace him in left field. The Rays are viewing Palacios as day-to-day, and the team should have a better feel for his status heading into this weekend's series in Houston following Thursday's team off day.

  • Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Sent to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Westbrook to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Westbrook saw regular reps at second base against left-handed pitching but did little with them, going just 2-for-22 at the plate this month. Nick Sogard was called up from Triple-A Worcester and will replace Westbrook on the 26-man active roster as the short-side platoon mate for David Hamilton at the keystone.

  • Leody Taveras CF | BAL

Rangers' Leody Taveras: Moving to bench Wednesday

Taveras is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Taveras will hit the bench for the series finale in St. Louis after starting in each of the last four games while going 1-for-13 at the dish. Travis Jankowski will spell Taveras in center field.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Resting up Wednesday

Heim is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

After starting in each of the previous five contests, Heim will retreat to the bench as the Rangers close their series in St. Louis with an afternoon contest. Trade-deadline pickup Carson Kelly will draw his first start with the Rangers, filling for Heim at catcher while batting eighth.

  • Yohan Ramirez RP | PIT

Red Sox's Yohan Ramirez: Removed from 40-man roster

The Red Sox designated Ramirez for assignment Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Ramirez was claimed off waivers Sunday and gave up three runs (two earned) over 1.1 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners in his lone appearance for the Red Sox. He's already made appearances with four different teams at the big-league level this season.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Could begin rehab games next week

Martin (elbow) threw a successful 25-pitch bullpen session Wednesday and is slated to throw off a mound again in the coming days, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

As long as he comes out of the next bullpen session with no concerns, Martin is expected to be cleared to start a rehab assignment next week. He's been out since early July with right elbow inflammation but looks to be progressing toward a return in early or mid-August.
