Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: Battling elbow inflammation
Bregman is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox due to swelling in the back of his right elbow, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Bregman has been on a tear at the plate recently, logging multiple hits in six of his last eight games, but the hot streak will be put on pause as he tends to swelling in the elbow of his throwing arm. At this point, it's unclear how severe the injury is, but expect the Astros to err on the side of caution with the 30-year-old.

Julio Rodriguez CF | SEA
Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Back in action
Rodriguez (ankle) is batting fourth and playing DH on Friday at Pittsburgh.
Rodriguez tweaked his right ankle Wednesday and was held out of the starting lineup for Thursday's contest. However, he'll return to the lineup for the series opener against Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old is slashing .263/.313/.371 across 425 plate appearances this season.

Beau Brieske RP | DET
Tigers' Beau Brieske: Serving as opener Friday
Brieske will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Friday's game against the Yankees, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
It's the third straight assignment as an opener for Brieske, and he went a combined 4.1 scoreless innings in the first two. The former starter is capable of going deeper into games than most openers, but the role still limits his fantasy utility. Brant Hurter is a likely candidate for bulk relief Friday.

Colt Keith 3B | DET
Tigers' Colt Keith: Resting Friday
Keith is "banged up a little bit" according to manager A.J. Hinch and is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
After starting seven consecutive games, Keith will get the night off to rest and recover. This late in the season, it's not abnormal for players to be dealing with minor aches and pains, as seems to be the case with Keith. Zach McKinstry will bat seventh and play second base for Friday's series opener.

Jose Siri LF | LAA
Rays' Jose Siri: Taking seat Friday
Siri is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Siri is on the bench for the fourth time in eight games, with Kameron Misner taking care of center field Friday. Siri is hitless with nine strikeouts in his last 14 at-bats.

Hunter Renfroe RF | KC
Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Absent from starting nine
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds.
Renfroe will get the night off to clear his head after going 0-for-24 in his last six games. Adam Frazier will bat seventh and fill right field.
-
Tim Mayza RP | PHI
Yankees' Tim Mayza: Set for Yankees debut
Mayza signed a major-league contract with the Yankees on Friday and was selected to the 26-man roster.
Mayza inked a minor-league deal with the Yankees on July 10 and has since been pitching for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 2.16 ERA across 8.1 innings. The left-hander shouldn't be expected to handle high-leverage work in what will be his first MLB action since being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays in late June.
-
Maikel Garcia 3B | KC
Royals' Maikel Garcia: On bench again
Garcia is absent from the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Reds.
Garcia is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game, a curious development considering the Royals had a team off day Thursday. It's unclear if Garcia is battling an injury, but this will be the first time the 24-year-old has sat in back-to-back games this season.
-
Trey Sweeney SS | DET
Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Contract selected ahead of debut
The Tigers selected Sweeney's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
Acquired from the Dodgers in last month's Jack Flaherty trade, Sweeney has slashed .267/.345/.450 with 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases over 107 contests at the Triple-A level this season. The 24-year-old has played shortstop almost exclusively in the minors and should see most of the reps there against right-handers, with Javier Baez perhaps limited to a short-side platoon.
-
Easton Lucas RP | TOR
Tigers' Easton Lucas: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Tigers designated Lucas for assignment Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Lucas will lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the Tigers selecting the contracts of Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney. Lucas hasn't pitched for Detroit since July 28. The 27-year-old has a 10.29 ERA in MLB this season but posted a 3.51 ERA across 33.1 innings with Triple-A Toledo, where he'll likely remain if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
