  • Riley Greene LF | DET

Tigers' Riley Greene: Powers offense Wednesday

Greene went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, an additional run scored and three total RBI in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Cubs.

Greene went 0-for-8 in his first two games back from the injured list following his absence due to a hamstring strain, but he broke out Wednesday. The young outfielder now has 18 home runs this season to go along with a strong .836 OPS. Greene is a dynamic offensive talent, and he should be poised for a strong finish to the year if he can stay healthy.

  • Cade Povich SP | BAL

Orioles' Cade Povich: Drawing start Friday

Povich is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Astros at Camden Yards, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday as a replacement on the 26-man roster and in the rotation for Zach Eflin (shoulder), who was placed on the injured list. Povich has been largely ineffective over his nine starts with the big club this season (5.77 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, 4.0 K-BB% in 43.2 innings), but he delivered one of his better performances in his most recent outing with Baltimore this past Saturday. Though he was handed a loss against the Red Sox, he held a potent lineup to two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out six batters over a career-high 6.1 innings.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

    Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Taking swings

Crawford (finger) hit against a pitching machine Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Wednesday marked the first time Crawford has swung a bat since he landed on the injured list with a fractured right finger. The Mariners are hopeful that he'll be able to begin a rehab assignment over the weekend, though he'll likely need to take a couple rounds of batting practice before being cleared to play in minor-league games.

  • Jose Rodriguez RF | MIN

Twins' Jose Rodriguez: Shakes off thumb injury

Rodriguez (thumb) went 1-for-6 with one walk and four strikeouts in his first two games for Single-A Fort Myers after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Saturday.

Rodriguez missed three months with what was apparently a significant thumb injury. The outfield prospect is slashing .185/.238/.326 over 147 plate appearances for Fort Myers this season.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rangers' Jon Gray: Slotting back into rotation Saturday

The Rangers list Gray as their scheduled starter for Saturday's game in Cleveland.

Gray returned from the injured list Tuesday after missing nearly a month with a groin strain, but because he didn't go out on a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand and wasn't fully stretched out, the Rangers opted to bring him back in a relief role. After Gray tossed two innings and 27 pitches out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Pirates, the Rangers are ready to welcome him back in the rotation this weekend, though he could be on a somewhat limited pitch count. Gray will be taking over the rotation spot that had previously belonged to Tyler Mahle (shoulder), who was placed on the IL on Tuesday.

  • Dylan Carlson LF | CHC

    Rays' Dylan Carlson: Idle Wednesday

Carlson isn't in the Rays' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Carlson has slashed .267/.353/.489 with three homers and nine RBI across 51 plate appearances since joining the Rays, but he'll step out of the lineup for a second consecutive game Wednesday. While he sits, Josh Lowe, Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca will serve as the Rays' starting trio in the outfield.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Yankees' Jon Berti: Starting up rehab assignment Friday

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Berti (calf) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Somerset, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

After experiencing no setbacks with his right calf upon being cleared for full baseball activities over the weekend, Berti is ready to play in games for the first time since late May. He'll likely remain on assignment at least through the weekend while he looks to regain his timing at the plate following a lengthy layoff, but if he fares well, Berti could make it back from the 60-day injured list before the end of August. Berti had been filling a utility role for the Yankees prior to straining his calf, but he could pick up regular at-bats at third base once he's activated. The Yankees have been leaning on youngsters Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza at the hot corner since Jazz Chisholm (elbow) landed on the injured list Aug. 14.

  • Clarke Schmidt RP | NYY

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: First rehab start coming Friday

Schmidt (lat) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Friday at Double-A Somerset, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The Yankees are targeting 50 pitches for Schmidt in the rehab outing, which comes after he gradually raised his pitch count over four live bating practice sessions. Schmidt looks like he'll be given the opportunity to get stretched back out for a starting role, but it's not clear if the Yankees will be able to open up a spot in the rotation for him once he eventually makes his way back from the 60-day injured list. Luis Gil (back) looks on track to return from the 15-day IL slightly before Schmidt, and Marcus Stroman has bounced back from a rough start to the second half with two straight strong starts to help solidify his spot at the back end of the rotation.

  • Orioles' Austin Slater: Homers Wednesday

Slater went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Mets.

Slater was responsible for the Orioles' first hit off Sean Manaea, a two-run, opposite-field homer in the sixth inning that tied the game 2-2. It's Slater's second home run of the year and his first in 12 games with Baltimore. The 31-year-old outfielder has been limited to the short side of a platoon, though he's batted leadoff in the Orioles' last four games against left-handed starters. Overall, Slater's slashing .221/.338/.290 with 17 runs scored, 15 RBI and three stolen bases across 160 plate appearances between Baltimore, Cincinnati and San Francisco this season.

  • Victor Robles RF | SEA

Mariners' Victor Robles: Battling hip injury

Robles isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to a hip issue, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The Mariners haven't offered any information regarding the nature of Robles' injury or how long they expect the outfielder to be sidelined, though he'll have the benefit of an additional day off Thursday before Seattle's next series against the Giants. Luke Raley will start in center field Wednesday while Justin Turner covers first base.
