  • Victor Robles RF | SEA

Mariners' Victor Robles: Sitting again Monday

Robles (finger) is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Tampa Bay.

Robles will sit for a second straight day due to a bruised finger he sustained in Saturday's 4-3 loss to San Francisco after being hit by a pitch. Dominic Canzone will start in right field Monday and bat eighth against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Back on bench Monday

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.

After leaving late in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Cardinals due to a right hand injury, Jeffers returned to the lineup for the series finale Sunday, catching all nine innings of the Twins' 3-2 loss. The Twins haven't indicated that Jeffers emerged from the contest with any sort of setback, as his absence from the lineup a day later is likely just a result of him being in a near-even timeshare behind the plate with Christian Vazquez, who draws the starting nod Monday.

  • Max Kepler LF | ARI

Twins' Max Kepler: Not in lineup Monday

Kepler (knee) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.

Kepler was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals with a sore left knee and will miss out on a second straight start. Given that Atlanta is sending a tough lefty in Max Fried to the hill for the series opener, the lefty-hitting Kepler might have been excluded from the lineup even if he wasn't bothered by the knee.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Will require rehab assignment

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Monday that Buxton (hip) is "getting closer" to a rehab assignment but is "not there yet," Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Baldelli added that while Buxton's rehab assignment is expected to be brief, he will require one before being activated from the 10-day injured list. The outfielder hasn't played since Aug. 12 because of right hip inflammation and would seem to be at least a week or so away from rejoining the Twins' lineup.

  • Bryan Sammons RP | DET

Tigers' Bryan Sammons: Sent down to Toledo

The Tigers optioned Sammons to Triple-A Toledo following Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Sammons earned the win while serving in bulk relief Sunday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.1 frames. Though he now holds a 1-1 record with a 3.62 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 27.1 major-league innings this season, the Tigers didn't have a spot in the rotation available for him moving forward. In addition to Ty Madden getting called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move to make his first MLB start Monday in Chicago, the Tigers are also expected to get Casey Mize (hamstring) back in the rotation later this week.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: To have season-ending hip surgery

The Tigers transferred Baez (hip) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Baez will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right hip next week. The veteran shortstop has missed time with hip and back problems this season, although the two injuries seem to be related. The surgery closes the book on another disappointing season for Baez, who finishes with a .516 OPS over 80 games. He is still owed $73 million through 2027. Trey Sweeney and Ryan Kreidler will handle shortstop for Detroit down the stretch.

  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Lands on paternity list

The Tigers placed Vest on the paternity list Monday.

Vest will now miss a maximum of three games while away from the team. Across 57 outings this season, Vest has registered one save and eight holds with a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 56.1 innings. Right-hander Mason Englert was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Moves up from Triple-A

The Tigers recalled Englert from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Englert returned from Toledo's 7-day injured list Thursday after recovering from right elbow inflammation. Across his 11 major-league outings this season, he's posted a 5.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 19.2 innings. Englert will join the Tigers' bullpen with left-hander Will Vest (personal) going on the paternity list in a corresponding move.

  • Ty Madden RP | DET

Tigers' Ty Madden: Contract selected ahead of debut

The Tigers selected Madden's contract from Triple-A Toledo, and he will start in Monday's series finale against the White Sox.

Madden will make his major-league debut Monday as he provides the Tigers some relief for their starting rotation, which has been decimated by injuries. Madden was promoted to Toledo in late April, and in his 18 starts in Triple-A this season he's posted a 3-5 record with a 7.97 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 102:40 K:BB over 79 innings. If he is able to fare well in his MLB debut, he could stick around with the big club and earn another start down the road.

  • Lane Thomas LF | ATL

Guardians' Lane Thomas: Hitting bench against righty

Thomas is out of the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Royals.

Thomas looks to be at risk of moving into a platoon role in the Cleveland outfield, as he'll take a seat for the third time in the Guardians' last four matchups with right-handed starting pitchers. Will Brennan will cover center field in Game 2 in place of Thomas, who started against a lefty (Cole Ragans) in the Guardians' 4-3 loss earlier in the day and went 1-for-4 with a walk.
