  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Belts first home run

Story went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's loss to the Yankees.

Story's two-run blast in the seventh inning was his first home run in nearly a calendar year. It was also his first extra-base hit since returning from the injured list Sept. 7. He's slashing .226/.281/.340 with four extra-base hits and seven RBI through 14 games this season.

  • Twins' DaShawn Keirsey: Headed back to Triple-A

The Twins will option Keirsey to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Keirsey appeared in four games during his first career stint in the majors, during which he went 1-for-10 with a strikeout and an HBP. He'll be sent back to the minors to clear space for Carlos Correa (heel), who is due to return from the injured list Saturday.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Set to return Saturday

Correa (plantar fasciitis) will be activated from the injured list before Saturday's game, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Correa has been taking live batting practice against minor-league pitchers and working in the field the past few days. He's been sidelined since the All-Star break due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He'll likely return to starting at shortstop, but he may be rusty at the plate from his extended time off. However, it's a good sign for the Twins, who could use a healthy Correa to ensure they make the playoffs.

  • Richard Fitts SP | STL

Red Sox's Richard Fitts: Impressive in spot start

Fitts allowed two hits and three walks over five shutout innings in a no-decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Yankees. He struck out two.

After making his MLB debut this past Sunday against the White Sox, Fitts was needed to make a second turn through the rotation after Tanner Houck (shoulder) was scratched from his scheduled start Friday. Fitts walked three straight batters in the first inning but escaped the threat. Only one other Yankee would reach scoring position against him. Fitts has not allowed an earned run through 10.2 innings to begin his MLB career, but whether or not he gets another turn in the rotation may depend on Houck's status.

  • Luke Weaver RP | PIT

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Earns two-inning save

Weaver allowed one hit over two scoreless innings Friday. He struck out five and earned a save against the Red Sox.

Weaver gave up a single in the eighth inning but had little trouble closing out the 5-4 victory. He allowed two runs in a Sep. 2 appearance but has since struck out 12 over 5.2 scoreless frames while earning a win, two saves and a hold during that span. Weaver now owns a 3.09 ERA with a 91:25 K:BB over 78.2 innings. With Clay Holmes seemingly out of the ninth-inning picture, Weaver should be expected to see more save opportunities down the stretch.

  • Alec Marsh RP | KC

Royals' Alec Marsh: Strikes out 11 in win

Marsh (8-8) earned the win Friday over the Pirates, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out 11.

Marsh was dominant Friday, holding Pittsburgh to a lone sixth-inning run while matching a career high with 11 strikeouts. In three starts since he was recalled from Triple-A, Marsh has allowed six runs while logging 21 strikeouts across 15.1 innings. His ERA sits at 4.52 through 121.1 innings this season with a 1.23 WHIP and 116:36 K:BB. He will likely get one more start before Michael Lorenzen (hamstring) comes off the IL -- Marsh is currently lined up to face the Tigers at home in his next outing.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Goes seven innings in no-decision

Gausman allowed two runs on nine hits and two walks over seven frames during a no-decision Friday. He struck out three in the extra-innings win over St. Louis.

Gausman got off to a rocky start, giving up four straight singles to begin the contest, leading to two Cardinal runs. He didn't allow another run after that frame and, at one point, retired 11 straight batters. He's struck out five or fewer batters in seven of his last eight starts, resulting in a disappointing 36:19 K:BB over 50.1 innings. Gausman is sporting a 4.02 ERA with a 153:52 K:BB through 170 innings this season. He's currently in line for a road start against the Rangers next week.

  • Rays' Tyler Alexander: Following opener Saturday

Alexander is expected to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Drew Rasmussen on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Many of Alexander's appearances have come as a bulk reliever this season, though it hasn't necessarily benefited his performance, as he owns a career-worst 5.50 ERA through 93.1 innings. He turned in a solid outing during his last appearance against the Phillies on Monday (one earned run over 4.1 innings), but he's too inconsistent to be considered a reliable streaming option.

  • Rays' Drew Rasmussen: Opening Saturday's game

Rasmussen will serve as the Rays' opening pitcher for Saturday's game versus the Guardians, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Rasmussen has put up a 2.79 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 19.1 innings this season. He'll likely be asked to work the first one or two innings of Saturday's contest before turning the game over to Tyler Alexander, who is expected to work in bulk relief.

  • Brant Hurter RP | DET

Tigers' Brant Hurter: Delivers 5.2 hitless frames

Hurter (5-1) earned the win in Friday's 1-0 victory over the Orioles, striking out eight while issuing one walk over 5.2 hitless innings.

Hurter was stellar again in a bulk role Friday, holding the Orioles without a hit while logging a career-high eight punchouts. The rookie left-hander has wins in five consecutive appearances, allowing just six runs over 24.1 innings in that span. Overall, Hurter's ERA is down to 2.56 with a 0.83 WHIP and 37:5 K:BB through his first 38.2 innings in the majors.
