Perez (back) said Monday that he's scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with High-A West Michigan on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Perez's rehab assignment will be contingent on him getting through his increased baseball activities early in the week without any hiccups. The 25-year-old has been out all season while recovering from lumbar spine inflammation and won't be eligible for activation until late May.

Montero has a locker in the Detroit clubhouse and is likely to be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Montero will presumably be called upon to fill in for the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) in the rotation. The 24-year-old right-hander tossed eight frames of one-run ball at Coors Field in a spot start last week before being optioned to Triple-A, but he is eligible to be recalled at any time because he served as the 27th man for a doubleheader that day.

Jung is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox.

Right-hander Tanner Houck is on the bump for the Red Sox, but the left-handed-hitting Jung will grab a seat after starting each of the last three games against righties. Zach McKinstry will pick up a start at third base and bat sixth for the Tigers in the series opener.

Vierling (shoulder) played six innings in right field and went 0-for-3 in his rehab game with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Though he made his fifth rehab appearance for Toledo on Sunday, Vierling played defense for the first time after going 3-for-10 with a pair of home runs, a double and five walks as a designated hitter through his first four games. Since Vierling is likely to see most of his playing time in center field or at third base once he returns from the 10-day injured list, the Tigers will likely want him to remain with Toledo this week to gain more exposure to both positions prior to activating him. If all goes well, Vierling could come off the IL early next week, according to MLB.com. Vierling has been on the shelf all season due to the right rotator cuff strain he suffered early in spring training.

Slater (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Slater is less than a month removed from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, but he has been cleared to test himself in a game setting. The veteran outfielder should be ready for activation from the 10-day injured list before the end of May if all goes well on his rehab assignment.

Perez (spine) was spotted playing catch Monday with rehabbing teammate Parker Meadows (upper arm), Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Both players reside on the 60-day injured list and won't be eligible to make their season debuts until late May, but Meadows may be slightly ahead of Perez in their respective rehab programs. In addition to doing some throwing, Perez has been able to do some bunting work, but he's not yet been cleared to take full swings, according to Evan Woodbery of MLive.com. The Tigers have yet to provide word when Perez might be ready to head out on what could be an extended minor-league rehab assignment.

Meadows (upper arm) threw out to approximately 70 feet Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Per MLB.com, Meadows had already upped his throwing distance to 120 feet, though McCosky suggests Monday's throwing session was at a medium level of intensity, whereas his previous ones had been of lighter intensity. In addition to gradually ramping up his throwing program, Meadows has been taking batting practice off a pitching machine and has been involved in defensive drills, but the Tigers haven't indicated when he might be ready to embark on a rehab assignment. Meadows is on the 60-day injured list while he works his way back from right upper arm nerve discomfort and won't be eligible to make his 2025 debut until late May.

The White Sox activated Workman (hip) from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment.

Workman is over the hip injury that sent him to the IL after just one game for the White Sox, but the team has decided they don't have room for him on the 26-man active roster or 40-man roster. The Rule 5 pick has now been designated for assignment by both Chicago franchises and will be available via waivers again. If he clears waivers, he must be offered back to the Tigers for $50,000.

Martinez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.

Martinez will head to the bench for the series opener versus Milwaukee after he had started in each of the last seven contests while batting .280 with a home run and a stolen base. Nolan Jones will shift over to center field in place of Martinez, while the newly recalled Will Brennan enters the lineup as Cleveland's starting right fielder.

The Guardians recalled Brennan from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Brennan spent nearly all of the previous two seasons in the majors, but this is his first promotion in 2025 from Columbus, where he's slashed .304/.340/.419 with three homers in 35 games this season. Cleveland has received very little production from Nolan Jones and Jhonkensy Noel in right field, so it's possible Brennan will get some run at that position. Brennan is starting in right field and batting ninth Monday versus the Brewers. However, with a career .270/.308/.377 batting line at the big-league level, Brennan is hardly a good bet to produce if he does get an opportunity.
