  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Making rehab start Tuesday

Flaherty (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Erie on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Flaherty landed on the 15-day injured list a little over a week ago with a left peroneal strain, but he's been cleared for games after throwing a successful bullpen session over the weekend. The right-hander could require just the one rehab outing before rejoining the Detroit rotation. Flaherty has collected a 5.35 ERA and 78:34 K:BB over 65.2 innings covering 15 starts this season.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: On bench for series opener

Wells is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

Wells made his return from the injured list Sunday in the Yankees' 4-1 loss to the Reds, starting behind the dish while going 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Though Wells stands to see the majority of the starts at catcher now that he's recovered from a bout with cervical headaches, the Yankees could still look to spare him from matchups versus left-handed pitching. Ali Sanchez will step in for Wells behind the plate Monday while the Tigers send southpaw Framber Valdez to the bump.

  • Luis Urias 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Luis Urias: Added to roster

The Blue Jays selected Urias' contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Urias was acquired via trade from the Diamondbacks over the weekend after putting up a .939 OPS in 27 games at Triple-A Reno. The 29-year-old will operate as a reserve infielder for the Blue Jays.

  • Spencer Jones CF | NYY

Yankees' Spencer Jones: Taking seat versus lefty

Jones is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

The left-handed-hitting Jones will retreat to the bench for the second time in three games while the Yankees face off against another left-handed starter (Framber Valdez). The Yankees will go with a starting outfield of Jose Caballero, Cody Bellinger and Jasson Dominguez from left to right in the series opener.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Idle against southpaw

McMahon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

The left-handed-hitting McMahon will head to the bench for the second time in three games while the Yankees face off against another lefty (Framber Valdez) in the series opener. Platoon mate Amed Rosario will replace McMahon at third base and will bat leadoff.

  • Blue Jays' Yohendrick Pinango: Dispatched to minors

The Blue Jays optioned Pinango to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Pinango has certainly held his own at the big-league level to this point, sporting a .283/.331/.433 batting line with four home runs and a 9:30 BB:K over 136 plate appearances. However, with Daulton Varsho returning from the injured list this past weekend and Addison Barger (elbow) seemingly not far off from being activated, Pinango will head back to Buffalo to play on a regular basis.

  • Rangers' Kyle Higashioka: Not in Monday's lineup

Higashioka is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Miami.

Higashioka will get a breather after starting at catcher the previous two days. Elias Diaz will be behind the dish and bat eighth for the Rangers in the series opener.

  • John Rave RF | KC

Royals' John Rave: Gaining traction in outfield

Rave will start in right field and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Rays.

Rave will crack the lineup for the third time in four matchups versus right-handed pitchers and appears to be getting prioritized over fellow left-handed hitter Kameron Misner for the final opening in the Kansas City outfield. Since being promoted from Triple-A Omaha on June 14, Rave has gone 3-for-7 with three extra-base hits, three walks, two RBI and three runs over four games, earning himself some more opportunities in the process.

  • Yankees' Yerry De Los Santos: Back with big club

The Yankees recalled De Los Santos from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

He's absorbing the roster spot vacated by Elmer Rodriguez, who was sent down to Triple-A following a spot start Sunday. De Los Santos has pitched well this season for the Yankees when given an opportunity, yielding only one run with a 6:3 K:BB over 5.1 frames.

  • Nick Loftin 2B | KC

Royals' Nick Loftin: Awarded seventh straight start

Loftin will start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Rays.

Loftin will remain in the lineup for a seventh straight game after going 7-for-22 with one home run, four doubles, three walks, four RBI and two runs across the prior six contests. He's been the main beneficiary of Maikel Garcia (hand) and Bobby Witt (knee) both having missed time over the past week, but Loftin's opportunities could dry up if Witt avoids a stint on the injured list. Garcia already seems to be past his hand injury, as he'll cover shortstop Monday in place of Witt for a second straight game.
