  • Athletics' Gage Jump: Enjoys best start of career

Jump (3-1) earned the win over the Angels on Thursday, allowing one hit and issuing three walks while striking out seven batters over seven scoreless innings. The Angels simply couldn't get to Jump, managing just one hit -- an Oswald Peraza double -- against him. The rookie left-hander established a career-best mark with seven punchouts and tossed his second scoreless start over his past three outings. Jump has yet to give up a homer through five appearances this season, and he's completed at least six innings in three of those starts. The 24-year-old appears to be in the big-league rotation to stay, as he's registered an excellent 2.37 ERA and 0.99 WHIP along with a 26:9 K:BB through his first 30.1 major-league frames.

  • Athletics' Gage Jump: Allows three runs in no-decision

Jump allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Friday. Jump left two runners on base in the sixth inning, and Justin Sterner promptly served up a three-run home run to Cole Carrigg. It's just a no-decision for Jump, who has generally pitched well so far, though he's allowed seven runs over 10 innings in his two home starts (one in Sacramento, one in Las Vegas). He has a 3.09 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB through 23.1 innings across four starts in total. The rookie southpaw is projected to make his next start in Sacramento against the Pirates. It'll likely come down to Jump or Jack Perkins for the last spot in the rotation once Aaron Civale (shoulder) returns from the injured list, though Perkins has primarily been a reliever in the majors this season.

  • Athletics' Gage Jump: Shuts down Cubs for first MLB win

Jump (1-1) earned the win Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings. Making just the second start of his MLB career, Jump bounced back from a lackluster debut by shutting down Chicago's lineup after an early shaky stretch. The left-hander allowed singles to Nico Hoerner and Pete Crow-Armstrong in the first inning, with one eventually coming around to score. In the second, he hit the leadoff man and surrendered a one-out single, but that would be the final hit he allowed all night. Jump retired the final 14 batters he faced en route to securing his first MLB victory. While he produced only five whiffs Tuesday, the 23-year-old is slated to face a Houston lineup that owned a 23.2 percent strikeout rate during May in his next start.

  • Athletics' Gage Jump: Takes loss in MLB debut

Jump (0-1) allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings in a loss to Seattle on Tuesday. Jump was added to the 40-man and 26-man rosters ahead of Tuesday's contest and made his first appearance as a major leaguer. The left-hander retired the first three batters he faced but then had a rough second inning, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk. Jump gave up another run on five hits and a hit-by-pitch over the following two frames but did manage to finish the start with a 1-2-3 fifth inning. He displayed decent strikeout stuff overall, notching 13 whiffs and five punchouts. Jump could be lined up for additional starts while Aaron Civale (shoulder) remains on the injured list.

  • Athletics' Gage Jump: Set to make MLB debut Tuesday

Jump will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to make his major-league debut Tuesday with a start against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Reports had surfaced earlier Tuesday indicating that Jump was on his way to the big leagues, and now there's a specific date attached to his debut. Tuesday's previously scheduled starter, Luis Severino, will be pushed back as a result of Jump's addition to the rotation. Jump has collected a 4.50 ERA and 56:20 K:BB over 38 innings with Las Vegas this season and has spun 11 shutout frames with a 15:1 K:BB in his last two starts.

  • Athletics' Gage Jump: Promoted to Double-A

The Athletics promoted Jump from High-A Lansing to Double-A Midland on Tuesday. Jump underwent Tommy John surgery in college and was selected with the 73rd pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft. The six-foot southpaw gets good run on his mid-90s fastball and has two strong breaking balls in his slider and curveball. Jump logged a 2.32 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 45:5 K:BB in 31 innings across six appearances for Lansing.
