Mahle (5-3) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Rays. He struck out five.

Mahle struggled late in his worst outing of the season Tuesday and didn't get the run support needed to avoid his third loss. Despite the off night, the 30-year-old has been excellent in 2025, posting a 2.02 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 71.1 innings. It's been a strong rebound campaign after arm injuries limited him to just 12.2 innings in 2024.

Lorenzen didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cardinals after giving up seven runs on seven hits and one walk in 2.2 innings. He struck out two.

After getting knocked around for six runs on a career-worst 11 hits his last time out, Lorenzen coughed up a season-worst seven runs in his shortest outing of the year Tuesday. Four of his seven hits allowed went for extra bases, and the veteran right-hander matched his season low in punchouts. Despite having four quality starts to his name among 12 appearances in 2025, Lorenzen owns a poor 5.12 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 65 innings. His next start is set to come against the lowly White Sox, which at least offers him a prime opportunity to rebound.

Hurter (2-1) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk across two innings of relief and took the loss Tuesday against the White Sox. He struck out four.

Hurter was the second pitcher up in a bullpen game started by Beau Brieske. The former pitched well while setting a new season high in strikeouts, but he got no help defensively or offensively in the team's 8-1 defeat. Hurter has been lights out this year with a 1.72 ERA and 31 strikeouts across 31.1 innings, and he'll continue to be a key bullpen option for the Tigers.

Olson received an injection to address the inflammation in his right ring finger Monday and is expected to resume playing catch Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The right-hander landed on the shelf with the injury May 19, and the inflammation apparently returned after he was briefly shut down from throwing. Olson is without an official timeline for his return but will likely be out for at least a couple more weeks as he ramps his throwing program back up.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Gipson-Long (elbow/hip) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Gipson-Long has been sidelined since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2024 and then a left hip procedure in July. He's been sharp since beginning a rehab assignment May 8, however, turning in a 2.20 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB across 16.1 innings between three minor-league levels. He could still be at risk of displaying some rust during his first MLB start since 2023, though he'll have the benefit of returning against a White Sox offense that owns the lowest OPS (.633) in the majors. Gipson-Long tossed 53 pitches in his most recent rehab outing, so he'll likely be operating with a restricted workload Wednesday.

Ragans (groin) is scheduled to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Thursday against the Cardinals, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Ragans allowed four earned runs over 3.2 innings during his rehab start with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Saturday, and he apparently showed enough for Kansas City to put him on a big-league mound for his next outing. The 27-year-old will end up missing little more than the 15-day minimum due to groin soreness, though he could still face some minor workload limitations in his first start back in the big leagues.

Wallner is not in the Twins' lineup Tuesday against the Athletics.

Wallner has played in three games since returning from a hamstring injury Saturday, but he will get to rest Tuesday. He recorded a hit in each game, going 3-for-11 with a home run. With the 27-year-old on the bench, Willi Castro has the start in right field as Brooks Lee takes over for Castro at second base.

Tromp signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Tromp elected free agency after clearing waivers Tuesday, but after spending less than a day on the open market, he'll return to his previous organization. The 30-year-old backstop has slashed .254/.338/.413 through 71 plate appearances in Triple-A this year.

Holman will start Tuesday's game against the Twins.

The right-hander will make the first start of his MLB career Tuesday as an opener. Holman has a 4.74 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB across 19 innings this season and should hand things off to the bullpen after an inning or two.

Wilson isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.

After going 8-for-18 with two RBI and a run scored during his four-game hitting streak, Wilson will grab a seat on the bench Tuesday while Max Schuemann starts at shortstop.
