  • Chris Murphy RP | BOS

Red Sox's Chris Murphy: Joining big-league bullpen

The Red Sox will recall Murphy from Triple-A Worcester prior to Friday's game in Arizona, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

He'll take the roster spot vacated by Jordan Hicks (shoulder), who is heading to the 15-day injured list. Murphy has made 14 appearances out of the Boston bullpen this season, collecting a 3.05 ERA and 19:10 K:BB over 20.2 frames. He'll be used in long relief.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | BOS

Red Sox's Jordan Hicks: Heading to IL with shoulder injury

The Red Sox will place Hicks on the 15-day injured list prior to Friday's game in Arizona with a right shoulder injury, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Hicks gave up four runs while recording just one out in an appearance Wednesday versus the Guardians and holds an 8.20 ERA and 15:12 K:BB over 18.2 innings during his time with the Red Sox. He would be eligible for activation Sept. 19, but between the nature of the injury and Hicks' struggles, his season could be over.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYY

Yankees' Devin Williams: Coughs up four runs to take loss

Williams (3-6) took the loss against Houston on Wednesday, allowing four runs on one hit and three walks while striking out two batters over two-thirds of an inning.

The game was tied 4-4 when Williams took the mound in the eighth inning. He immediately found himself in trouble, giving up a double and a walk to the first two batters he faced. Williams fanned two of the next three hitters to nearly wiggle out of the mess, but he then walked in a run before giving way to Camilo Doval, who allowed all three of his inherited runners to score. Williams has been prone to blowups this season -- he's given up multiple runs in 10 outings, and in half of those instances he's surrendered at least three runs. Despite an impressive 78:23 K:BB over 53 frames, his ERA sits at an ugly 5.60 on the season.

  • Tai Peete SS | SEA

Mariners' Tai Peete: Flirting with 20/20 season

Peete is slashing .216/.284/.403 with 18 home runs and 25 steals in 121 games for High-A Everett.

Peete, who is playing his first full season in center field, is flirting with a 20/20 season at High-A in his age-19 season (he turned 20 in August). While he has been well below league average (77 wRC+), he has still shown reason to be patient in deeper dynasty leagues. His .283 BABIP is partially to blame for his mediocre slash line, and he encouragingly logged career-high flyball (39.1 percent) and pull (50.2 percent) rates for the AquaSox. Peete will presumably head back to High-A in 2026 with a chance to spend most of the year at Double-A if he can trim this year's 30.9 percent strikeout rate.

  • Cole Ragans SP | KC

Royals' Cole Ragans: Tosses live batting practice

Ragans (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch live batting practice session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Ragans' recovery from a torn left rotator cuff has been slow and deliberate, with Wednesday marking his first time facing live hitters since he was placed on the injured list June 11. While no firm timeline has been set for Ragans' return, the next step for the 27-year-old would likely be heading out on a rehab assignment to build up his pitch count with the hope of rejoining the big club in the second half of September.

  • Cody Bellinger LF | NYY

Yankees' Cody Bellinger: Slugs 27th homer Wednesday

Bellinger went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.

Bellinger brought New York to within a run with his three-run blast in the ninth inning, but the team wasn't able to complete the comeback. The veteran outfielder is up to 27 homers on the campaign, his highest mark since he went deep 47 times during his MVP 2019 campaign while with the Dodgers. Bellinger's .837 OPS this season is also on pace for his second-highest mark since that MVP campaign.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Belts another homer Wednesday

Stanton went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday in a loss to Houston.

Stanton kicked off the scoring in the contest with a solo blast to left field in the second inning. The veteran slugger had been in a brief slump coming into the game, going 0-for-14 with six strikeouts over his previous five games. However, he's having a resurgent campaign overall with 18 home runs and 47 RBI through 57 contests. His .984 OPS is on pace to be his highest mark since 2017.

  • Brock Burke RP | LAA

Angels' Brock Burke: Notches 14th hold

Burke earned a hold against Kansas City on Wednesday by pitching a clean sixth inning.

Burke entered with the Angels up by a run in the sixth inning. He made quick work of the Royals, retiring the side in order on 10 pitches. Burke is having a solid season, posting a 3.09 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB over 63 appearances spanning 55.1 frames. He's already reached a career-best mark with 14 holds.

  • Ben Hess SP | NYY

Yankees' Ben Hess: Missing bats for Patriots

Hess has a 3.16 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB in 25.2 innings across five starts for Double-A Somerset.

The Yankees selected Hess with the 26th pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft and he has logged 20 starts and 92.1 innings thus far in his first pro season. Hess, who was promoted from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A on Aug. 5, has a strong 33.2 percent strikeout rate on the year, but his 11.3 percent walk rate is a tad high. Hess has a couple plus pitches in his mid-90s fastball and mid-70s curveball while his slider and changeup lag behind. He should spend the bulk of 2026 at Triple-A, but a summer promotion to the big leagues is in play if Hess picks up where he left off this season.

  • Austin Overn CF | BAL

Orioles' Austin Overn: Running wild at Double-A

Overn is hitting .277 with three home runs and 18 steals in 22 games for Double-A Chesapeake.

Overn is a freak athlete who also played wide receiver at USC as a freshman before focusing on baseball from 2023 onward. He slashed .242/.367/.386 with eight home runs and 43 steals in 84 games for High-A Aberdeen before getting promoted to Double-A on Aug. 5. He has been much more aggressive since getting to Double-A, with his walk rate dipping from 15.5 percent to 5.8 percent and his swing rate jumping from 41 percent to 53.8 percent. Overn has 11 home runs and a .359 on-base percentage in 106 games this season, and it's possible he trends up as a hitter over the next year or two as he gets further removed from his two-sport days. He has the upside of a strong-side platoon outfielder who hits 10-15 home runs with 30-plus steals.
