  • Reese Olson SP | DET

Tigers' Reese Olson: Rejoining big-league rotation

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Olson's (finger) next start will be in the majors, and the right-hander could be activated from the 15-day injured list to pitch Friday in Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Olson has been shelved since mid-May due to right ring finger inflammation but is ready to rejoin the Tigers rotation after making three rehab starts. He went four innings and threw 74 pitches in his most recent outing for Triple-A Toledo last Wednesday, so Olson will have a somewhat limited pitch count this weekend. The righty has been superb in nine starts for Detroit this season, collecting a 2.96 ERA and 51:19 K:BB over 48.2 innings.

  • Tyler Owens RP | DET

Tigers' Tyler Owens: Summoned from Triple-A

The Tigers recalled Owens from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

He'll take over the 26-man active roster spot of right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Owens made two relief appearances for Detroit earlier this season but has spent most of the 2025 campaign pitching out of the bullpen at Toledo, where he's posted a 5.46 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 28 innings.

  • Trey Sweeney SS | DET

Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Returns to parent club

The Tigers recalled Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Though Sweeney will start at shortstop and bat ninth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, he's expected to operate primarily in a reserve role during his upcoming stint with the big club. Sweeney opened the season as the Tigers' everyday shortstop but began to see his playing time dwindle in early June, when Javier Baez wasn't needed as often in the outfield and began seeing more opportunities at Sweeney's expense. Before being demoted to Triple-A last Friday, Sweeney slashed just .221/.280/.314 with four home runs and two stolen bases over 225 plate appearances on the season.

  • Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Goes on IL with neck strain

The Tigers placed Gipson-Long on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a neck strain.

Gipson-Long last pitched Friday, and it's not clear whether he got hurt during that outing or at some point since then. The right-hander will be eligible for activation at the start of the second half, but the Tigers have not revealed a timetable for his return. With Reese Olson (finger) expected back from the injured list later this week, Gipson-Long might not have a rotation spot waiting for him once he's healthy.

  • Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Hits IL with hamstring strain

The Tigers placed Carpenter (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Detroit manager A.J. Hinch previously said Tuesday that Carpenter was headed to the IL after he strained his right hamstring in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Twins, but after the series opener in Washington was rained out, the Tigers waited until Wednesday to make the transaction official. The Tigers recalled infielder Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, but Matt Vierling and Zach McKinstry are more likely to see boosts in playing time while Carpenter is on the shelf. Though Carpenter's injury is considered mild and he's eligible to return from the IL on July 11, the Tigers could wait until after the All-Star break to reinstate him.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Huge day in rout

Gimenez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a three-run home run and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

The second baseman took Max Fried deep in the fourth inning, one of three Blue Jay long balls in a 12-5 rout. Gimenez has started to find a groove at the plate, batting .300 (9-for-20) over his last eight starts, but on the season he's still slashing a poor .207/.293/.315 with five homers, 10 steals, 21 RBI and 25 runs in 59 contests.

  • Yankees' Braden Shewmake: Shelved at Triple-A

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre placed Shewmake on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to an unspecified injury.

Shewmake possesses a spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster but has spent the entire 2025 season in the minors. Over his 173 plate appearances with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Shewmake has slashed .235/.324/.379 with four home runs and nine stolen bases.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Grabbing seat in series finale

Langeliers is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rays.

Langeliers hit home runs Monday and Tuesday in his first two games back from the injured list and will receive a breather for Wednesday's matinee. Austin Wynns will start at catcher and bat sixth for the Athletics.

  • Bailey Horn P | DET

Tigers' Bailey Horn: Up with big club for doubleheader

The Tigers recalled Horn from Triple-A Toledo to serve as their 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals.

Horn is expected to be returned to Toledo immediately following the second game of the doubleheader. The lefty reliever previously made his lone relief appearance of the season for Detroit back on April 22 against the Padres, striking out two and allowing one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Day off Wednesday

Butler is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Right-hander Ryan Pepiot has reverse splits, offering an opportunity to give the left-handed-hitting Butler a day of rest. Brent Rooker will get a start in right field for the Athletics.
