  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Tigers' Alex Cobb: Receives another injection

Cobb received an injection in his left hip earlier in the week and is slated to resume throwing Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Cobb has received multiple injections to address the inflammation in his hip, which has kept him on the injured list all season. The Tigers will likely look to get the 37-year-old back on a mound shortly after he restarts his throwing program, though it remains to be seen when he'll restart his rehab assignment in the minors.

  • Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Continues ramping up

Rodriguez (lat) threw 25 pitches -- including fastballs and breaking balls -- in a bullpen session Friday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez reported that he's now thrown a few bullpens at full intensity, though it remains unclear when he'll be able to advance to facing live hitters. The right-hander was diagnosed with a lat strain in late April after he had already begun the campaign on the IL due to right elbow inflammation. It remains unlikely that Rodriguez will be able to rejoin Baltimore's rotation earlier than August.

  • Justin Bruihl RP | STL

Blue Jays' Justin Bruihl: Bumped from active roster

The Blue Jays optioned Bruihl to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Bruihl pitched a scoreless one-third of an inning to earn a hold in Thursday's win over the Yankees, bringing his ERA down to 2.70 in four appearances with the big club this season. The lefty will presumably be back in Toronto before the end of 2025, but for now he will make room for right-hander Lazaro Estrada, who can provide more length out of the bullpen.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Beginning on bench Friday

Baez isn't in the starting lineup Friday versus Cleveland.

Baez started three of Detroit's previous four games but will get a rest Friday against Guardians righty Slade Cecconi. Zach McKinstry is starting at shortstop, and Colt Keith is getting a turn at the hot corner.

  • Lazaro Estrada RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Lazaro Estrada: Selected to big-league roster

The Blue Jays selected Estrada's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Lefty Justin Bruihl was optioned to Triple-A, and the right-handed Estrada will replace him in the Toronto bullpen after putting up a 4.75 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 66:21 K:BB over 15 starts (60.2 innings) with Buffalo to begin the campaign. Estrada, 26, will be making his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game.

  • Jose Caballero SS | NYY

    Rays' Jose Caballero: Sitting Friday

Caballero is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.

Though he leads the majors with 30 stolen bases, Caballero has been handling a part-time role in recent weeks. He'll be on the bench for the second game in a row and the fourth time in six games, and his chances of earning starts in the middle infield aren't likely to improve in the short term with the Rays activating Ha-Seong Kim (shoudler) from the injured list Thursday. Caballero will likely see fewer at-bats, though Rays manager Kevin Cash told Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun on Friday that Caballero will continue to see playing time, adding that both Caballero and Taylor Walls are "big parts of our club." Walls probably ranks as the preferred option at shortstop when Kim is out of the lineup, though the right-handed-hitting Caballero could be a regular part of the lineup against left-handed pitching as a replacement in the outfield for either Chandler Simpson or Josh Lowe, both of whom bat from the left side.

  • Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Moved to 60-day IL

Santander (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Santander had been on the 10-day IL due to a subluxation of his left shoulder since May 30, and his move to the 60-day IL means that he won't be eligible for activation until July 30. Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins mentioned near the end of June that the veteran outfielder was nearing the beginning of a hitting progression, but it appears that Santander remains several weeks away from being ready to return to action. Of late, Davis Schneider has been getting most of the starts in left field in Santander's stead.

  • Billy McKinney LF | TEX

Rangers' Billy McKinney: DFA'd by Texas

McKinney was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday.

McKinney's time with the big club lasted a mere four days, with the 30-year-old going 1-for-7 across two contests. The journeyman will clear out to make room for Evan Carter (personal), and McKinney will now be subjected to waivers.

  • Evan Carter CF | TEX

Rangers' Evan Carter: Back from bereavement list

Carter (personal) was reinstated from the bereavement list and is back in the lineup Friday, starting in center field and batting fifth against the Padres.

The 22-year-old Carter was demoted to Triple-A in April and also spent time on the injured list earlier this season with a Grade 2 quadriceps strain. He's turned it around at the dish since his return, however, slashing .333/.421/.530 with three homers and five steals across his last 21 games.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: On bench Friday

Kirk is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Kirk will get a well-deserved breather after starting all four games against the Yankees to begin the week, including making three starts at catcher. Tyler Heineman will step in behind the plate in place of Kirk, who is slashing a healthy .305/.358/.420 across 288 plate appearances so far this season.
