  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Tigers' Kenley Jansen: Comes off injured list

The Tigers reinstated Jansen (pelvis) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

The veteran right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to right pelvic inflammation, but he's back on the active roster after spending the 15-day minimum on the shelf. Jansen surrendered three runs on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning during his lone rehab outing with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. Despite having four blown saves and an underwhelming 4.80 ERA through 18 appearances this year, Jansen is expected to serve as Detroit's primary closer now that he's healthy.

  • Raynel Delgado 3B | HOU

    Astros' Raynel Delgado: Contract selected

The Astros selected Delgado's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday.

Delgado was acquired via trade from the Rays earlier this week and now has been added to the major-league roster. The infielder has slashed .250/.320/.362 with three homers and 24 steals this season at Triple-A Durham. Delgado will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.

  • Ryan Weiss RP | HOU

Astros' Ryan Weiss: Designated for assignment

The Astros designated Weiss for assignment Friday.

The Astros gave Weiss a major-league contract over the offseason after he spent time overseas, but he was sent down to Triple-A Sugar Land in early May after posting a 7.62 ERA, 2.12 WHIP and 30:20 K:BB over 26 innings. Given his $2.6 million salary, he will likely clear waivers and remain at Sugar Land.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Likely out through All-Star break

Crochet clarified Friday that his lat strain is asymptomatic, but his shoulder is taking longer than expected to recover, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. The left-hander also said he doesn't expect to come off the injured list until after the All-Star break.

Crochet said earlier in the week that the lat low-grade lat strain he sustained in early June was "a lot worse" that initially believed, but he clarified Friday that he was actually referring to the shoulder inflammation that sent him to the IL in late April. The 26-year-old continues to work his way back from the latter injury and could start up a throwing program soon, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, but he'll need significant time to build up his arm before rejoining Boston's rotation.

  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Back in majors

The Blue Jays recalled Schneider from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

The 27-year-old was optioned to Buffalo in late April but will return to the big club Friday since Daulton Varsho (wrist) is headed to the injured list. Schneider has struggled to a .127/.295/.211 slash line and 34.8 percent strikeout rate in 89 major-league plate appearances this year. He was more productive during his stint at Triple-A with a .769 OPS, though that came as the result of a .188 average and a ridiculous 24:8 BB:K in 14 games.

  • Blue Jays' Tyler Heineman: Designated for assignment

The Blue Jays designated Heineman for assignment Friday.

Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is back from the injured list, and the Blue Jays have elected to keep Brandon Valenzuela around as his backup rather than Heineman. Heineman is hitting only .154/.205/.205 this season and could clear waivers, though if that happens he would have the ability to elect free agency.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | TOR

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Lands on IL with wrist inflammation

The Blue Jays placed Varsho on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to June 10, with left wrist inflammation.

It's been a week since Varsho started a game, though he has appeared off the bench a few times during that stretch. Ultimately, the outfielder was unable to avoid a trip to the IL, and he will be eligible to return June 20. Myles Straw and Nathan Lukes should handle center field for Toronto while Varsho is out.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Reinstated from injured list

The Blue Jays activated Kirk (thumb) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

A broken left thumb sent Kirk to the injured list just five games into the season, but he's ready to rejoin the Blue Jays after fully recovering from surgery to repair the fracture. The 27-year-old went 3-for-18 with a homer and a double during his six-game rehab assignment and should immediately reclaim the starting job behind the plate for Toronto. Brandon Valenzuela will fill the backup job with Tyler Heineman being designated for assignment as part of Friday's transactions.

  • Leody Taveras CF | BAL

Orioles' Leody Taveras: Exiting starting nine

Taveras is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.

The re-emergence of Colton Cowser has started to cut into Taveras' playing time a bit, as this is the third time he's been out of the lineup over the last 10 games. Cowser is in center field and Tyler O'Neill will play right field Friday for the Orioles.

  • Daniel Espino RP | CLE

Guardians' Daniel Espino: Promotion made official

The Guardians recalled Espino from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Espino was one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball a few years ago, but his career has been sidetracked by injuries, including a pair of shoulder surgeries. He's moved to the bullpen this season and has finally earned a call-up after collecting a 5.30 ERA and 29:15 K:BB over 18.2 innings with Columbus.
