Santana is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Santana will get a standard veteran rest day while the Guardians and Orioles close out their four-game series with a matinee contest. With Santana on the bench, Kyle Manzardo will cover first base, while Jose Ramirez gets a day out of the infield and serves as the Guardians' designated hitter.

Naylor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Naylor will get a breather during Thursday's matinee after he started behind the dish in each of the first three games of the series versus Baltimore. Austin Hedges will handle catching duties for the Guardians while Naylor rests.

Gray (forearm) was awarded the win in Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Athletics after giving up one hit over two scoreless innings of relief.

Activated from the 60-day injured list earlier Thursday after he had been on the shelf for the entire season due to the broken right forearm he suffered in mid-March, Gray was used out of the bullpen for just the fifth time in 228 career big-league appearances. Manager Bruce Bochy immediately threw Gray into the fire in a high-leverage spot, with the right-hander entering with runners on the corners with two outs in a 1-1 game in the top of the sixth. He induced a flyout from Tyler Soderstrom to end the inning, then retired the next five batters he faced before he was lifted after allowing a two-out single to Brent Rooker in the top of the eighth. Though Gray got stretched out to 3.2 innings and 61 pitches during his recent rehab assignment, the Rangers appear content to keep him in the bullpen, where the team has a greater need for impact arms after setup man Chris Martin (calf) recently landed on the IL.

Rosario (elbow) has not had surgery yet, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Grant adds that the Rangers and Rosario are working through some unrelated issues, so this situation is incredibly murky. The team announced in February that Rosario would need Tommy John surgery, but for whatever reason, he still hasn't had the procedure or advanced down a non-surgical path of recovery. At this point, we can probably rule out Rosario pitching in minor-league games in 2026, unless he attempts to come back without having the surgery.

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Yankees.

He capped the scoring in an 8-4 victory by taking Scott Effross deep in the seventh inning, Bichette's 13th long ball of the year. The 27-year-old shortstop has been on fire in July, slashing .328/.379/.574 through 16 games on the month with nine doubles, two homers, nine runs and 10 RBI.

Guillorme (hamstring) went 0-for-3 with Triple-A Sugar Land in rehab game Wednesday.

Guillorme has been sidelined with a hamstring strain since early July but will presumably be able to return in a few days. What his role upon activation will be is unclear, however, as he managed only three hits across 20 at-bats prior to suffering the injury.

Dubon went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Dubon delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning and now has a hit in five of six games since the All-Star break. That hasn't come with much production in counting stats -- he has only one RBI and one run scored in that span -- but he is getting consistent playing time at either shortstop or third base.

Trammell went 1-for-3 with two walks Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

The Astros have used Isaac Paredes (hamstring) and Jeremy Pena (ribs) as their primary leadoff hitters this year, but they have been forced to explore other options with both sidelined. Cam Smith had hit from the top spot in the prior three games, but he was out of the lineup Wednesday to give Trammell an opportunity. Trammell is getting near-everyday playing time in the absence of Jake Meyers (calf) and has gone 10-for-35 with two home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored across his last 12 games.

Bautista was unavailable to pitch in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Guardians due to an undisclosed injury, Henry Palattella of MLB.com reports.

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said after the game that Bautista "played catch fully today and looked great," but the reliever sent a message to the dugout in the seventh inning that he was unavailable. It's not clear at this point why Bautista wasn't ready to pitch, but Mansolino said that he expected to have more information on Bautista's status Thursday. If Bautista is forced to miss time, Seranthony Dominguez would likely be next in line for saves, with Andrew Kittredge, Gregory Soto and Yennier Cano also potentially in the mix.

Sears allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over five innings in a no-decision against Texas on Wednesday.

Sears served up a solo homer to Corey Seager in the third inning, but that was the only run the Rangers managed against him. The southpaw notched a solid 13 whiffs and seven punchouts, though he was pulled after five innings despite having thrown a modest 82 pitches. This was a nice turnaround for Sears after he surrendered six earned runs across four frames in his previous start. He's lined up for a home matchup against the Mariners early next week.
