  • Nathan Eaton LF | BOS

Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Added to roster

The Red Sox recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday.

Eaton will join the 26-man active roster in place of Rob Refsnyder (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The utility player previously went 6-for-24 with three stolen bases over 14 games with the big club earlier this season. The right-handed-hitting Eaton is unlikely to see many starts versus right-handed pitching, but he could have a regular spot in the lineup versus lefties. He'll serve as Boston's designated hitter and leadoff batter in Monday's matchup with Orioles southpaw Trevor Rogers.

  • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Displaying power in August

In 12 games this month for Double-A Erie, McGonigle has five home runs and a 1.082 OPS.

In his first 14 games for Erie following a promotion in early July, McGonigle posted a solid .302 batting average but only went deep once. The 21-year-old has displayed increased power since the calendar flipped to August, however, with the five long balls, including four homers in his last five games. McGonigle has quickly established himself as a top-five prospect and the Tigers' shortstop of the near future, although it's unclear how aggressively he'll be pushed over the rest of the season.

  • Rob Refsnyder DH | SEA

Red Sox's Rob Refsnyder: Shut down with oblique strain

The Red Sox placed Refsnyder on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain.

It's not clear when Refsnyder was injured, but he hadn't played since making a pinch-hitting appearance last Wednesday. He will be eligible for activation Aug. 26, but any oblique injury has the potential to create longer than a minimum stay on the IL.

  • Max Clark OF | DET

Tigers' Max Clark: Playing well at new level

In 26 games since getting promoted to Double-A Erie, Clark is slashing .274/.371/.481 with four home runs and 10 RBI.

Clark has adjusted well so far to the jump up in level, and he's also impacting the game with his speed, as he has six steals in six attempts for Erie. The 20-year-old outfielder is one of the top prospects in baseball, and he has the potential to be a five-tool player at some point in the majors. For now, expect Clark to keep developing at Double-A, with a promotion to Triple-A Toledo a possibility later in the year.

  • Yankees' Bryce Cunningham: Makes return from IL

Cunningham (undisclosed) walked three batters over 1.1 scoreless innings in his start Wednesday for High-A Hudson Valley after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list.

Cunningham didn't require a rehab assignment at a lower level of the minors prior to being activated, but because he hadn't pitched for Hudson Valley since June 4 due to an unspecified injury, he was on a limited workload Wednesday. The right-hander was able to escape the outing with any damage, but his control was far from on point, as he spotted just 15 of his 30 pitches for strikes. For the season, Cunningham owns a 1.88 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 47:14 K:BB over 48 innings for Hudson Valley.

  • Ali Sanchez C | NYY

Red Sox's Ali Sanchez: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Red Sox designated Sanchez for assignment Monday.

Sanchez will give up his spot on the 26-man active roster and 40-man roster to first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who signed a one-year contract with the team. Sanchez had been serving as Boston's third catcher while Carlos Narvaez dealt with a nagging knee issue, but he's received just one plate appearance during his week-and-a-half stint with the club.

  • J.C. Escarra C | NYY

Yankees' J.C. Escarra: Moves back to Triple-A

The Yankees optioned Escarra to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

In a corresponding move, New York is expected to activate utility man Amed Rosario (collarbone) from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game at Tampa Bay. After being called up from Triple-A on Aug. 10, Escarra appeared in just one game during his week-long stint with the Yankees, going 0-for-1 with an RBI.

  • Orioles' Jeremiah Jackson: Scores three times in win

Jackson went 3-for-5 with three runs in Sunday's 12-0 win over the Astros.

Though the Orioles got some reinforcement in the outfield Sunday with the return of Colton Cowser (concussion) from the 7-day injured list, Jackson ended up sticking in the lineup over Dylan Carlson. While making his fourth start in five games, Jackson finished second on the team in hits and is now batting .333 through his first 13 games with Baltimore. The Orioles are likely to prioritize playing time for Cowser and prospect Dylan Beavers over Jackson, the 25-year-old could continue to poach work from Carlson at the other spot in the outfield if he's able to remain hot at the plate. Both Jackson and Carlson could see their opportunities decline when or if Tyler O'Neill (wrist) returns from the IL, however.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Orioles' Zach Eflin: Back surgery completed

The Orioles announced that Eflin underwent a lumbar microdiscectomy surgery Monday in Florida, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Eflin's surgery appears to have gone off without any complications, and the right-hander is optimistic that he'll have a normal offseason after about 12 weeks and rest and rehab. In total, Eflin will face an estimated recovery timeline of 4-to-8 months, so he could be at risk of missing spring training and the start of the 2026 season if he veers toward the latter end of that range. Eflin, who went 6-5 with a 5.93 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB across 71.1 innings in his 14 starts with the Orioles before landing on the injured list July 31, is set to become a free agent this winter.

  • Victor Robles RF | SEA

Mariners' Victor Robles: Gets ejected from rehab game

Robles (shoulder) went 0-for-1 in a rehab game Sunday with Triple-A Tacoma before he was ejected from the game in the third inning.

Through the first five games of his rehab assignment, Robles has gone 5-for-15 with two doubles, two stolen bases, four RBI and two runs, but his return from the 60-day injured list may be further delayed by his actions in Sunday's contest. During his third-inning plate appearance, Robles took exception to an inside pitch by Las Vegas right-hander Joey Estes and threw his bat in the direction of the pitcher, which resulted in Robles' immediate ejection. Robles later apologized for throwing the bat in a post on his personal Instagram account, but he could still receive a suspension for the incident. The 28-year-old has been on the injured list since April 7 due to a small fracture and separation in his left shoulder and is expected to require about 40-to-50 at-bats during his rehab assignment before the Mariners activate him.
