  • J.J. Bleday LF | CIN

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Playing time trending down

Bleday is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

The left-handed-hitting Bleday is on the bench for the third time in four matchups with right-handed pitchers and looks to have lost hold of a strong-side platoon role in the Athletics outfield. Until Denzel Clarke (adductor) returns from the injured list, the Athletics may continue to take a committee approach to right field rather than relying on Bleday or another player on an everyday basis.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Receiving rest Sunday

O'Hoppe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

O'Hoppe will get some rest for Sunday's matinee after he had started behind the plate in both of the previous two contests. Travis d'Arnaud will form a battery with starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks in the series finale versus Chicago.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Replacing resting O'Hoppe

D'Arnaud will start at catcher and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Cubs.

With No. 1 backstop Logan O'Hoppe getting a breather for the series finale after starting at catcher Friday and Saturday, d'Arnaud will receive a turn behind the dish Sunday. Since the All-Star break, d'Arnaud is hitting a lowly .091/.216/.136 with zero home runs, zero steals, one RBI and three runs in 16 games.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

Angels' Yoan Moncada: Getting rest Sunday

Moncada is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

After starting each of the past five games and going 4-for-20 with three solo home runs, Moncada will receive a breather for the series finale. Luis Rengifo will step in for Moncada at third base and will bat fifth.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Not ready to start Sunday

Schanuel (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Schanuel is unlikely to be available off the bench for the series finale, as he's scheduled to undergo further tests Monday after leaving Saturday's 12-1 loss in the sixth inning due to a sore left wrist. Niko Kavadas will step in for Schanuel at first base in the series finale.

  • Victor Mederos RP | ATL

Angels' Victor Mederos: Shelved after poor start

The Angels placed Mederos on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation.

Mederos made his third start of the season in Saturday's 12-1 loss to the Cubs and was the pitcher of record after yielding six earned runs on four hits and two walks across four innings. Following the game, Mederos told Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register that his shoulder felt off toward the end of his start, and the Angels decided to deactivate him while they look to glean more information about the injury. Mederos is expected to undergo an MRI in the coming days before the Angels provide a potential timeline for his return. Caden Dana delivered a 13-strikeout gem in his most recent start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and could be a top candidate to step in for Mederos the next time his turn in the rotation comes up.

  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

Angels' Carson Fulmer: Shelved with elbow inflammation

The Angels placed Fulmer on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation.

According to MLB.com, Fulmer sustained the injury while throwing a changeup during his relief appearance in Saturday's 12-1 loss to the Cubs. Before departing, Fulmer was charged with six earned runs on seven hits and one walk over 1.1 innings, bringing his ERA up to 5.83 for the season. Though the Angels are labeling his injury as inflammation, Fulmer will undergo further testing as the team looks to rule out a more significant issue to his elbow, per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.

  • Chase Silseth RP | LAA

Angels' Chase Silseth: Summoned from Triple-A

The Angels recalled Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Though he's made most of his appearances in the big leagues the past three seasons as a starter, Silseth transitioned to a full-time relief role at Triple-A in late July after returning from a stint on the 7-day injured list. He's thrived out of the bullpen for Salt Lake, tossing 8.2 scoreless frames while striking out 13 over his last nine appearances. The right-hander will likely be deployed by the Angels in lower-leverage spots initially but could work his way up the bullpen depth chart quickly if he excels early on with the big club.

  • Jose Soriano SP | LAA

Angels' Jose Soriano: Returns from restricted list

The Angels reinstated Soriano (personal) from the restricted list Sunday.

Soriano wasn't ready to rejoin the Angels after the maximum three days on the paternity list, so the club shifted him to the restricted list Saturday in a procedural move. He's slated to make his next start Monday versus the Rangers.

  • Ezequiel Duran SS | TEX

Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Picking up third straight start

Duran will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Duran will stay in the lineup for the third game in a row after after going 2-for-8 with two doubles and three RBI in the first two. With Marcus Semien (foot) landing on the injured list Saturday, Duran could emerge as the Rangers' primary option at the keystone.
