  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Sitting out for day game

Narvaez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Athletics.

It's a routine day off for Narvaez, who started each of the last five contests (four at catcher, one at designated hitter). Connor Wong will do the catching during Thursday's matinee.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Taking seat Thursday

Kirk is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Rays.

Kirk will receive a day off after starting at catcher in each of the first two games of the series. Tyler Heineman will be behind the dish for Thursday's matinee.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Knocks in two

Diaz went 1-for-3 with two RBI on Wednesday against the Rangers.

Diaz delivered a two-run single in the first inning to start the scoring for Houston. He's been excellent at the plate in his last 10 games, hitting .351 with one home run, 12 RBI and four runs scored.

  • Carlos Correa 3B | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Scores twice in win

Correa went 2-for-4 with two runs scored Wednesday against the Rangers.

Correa singled in each of his first two plate appearances and came around to score on each occasion. He has at least one hit in 14 of his 16 starts in September, hitting .294 with three homers, six RBI and 10 runs scored in that span.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Six-game hitting streak

Pena went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored Wednesday against the Rangers.

Pena had an excellent series against the Rangers, going 7-for-11 with seven runs scored, two RBI and two doubles across three games. He also has a six-game hitting streak, solidifying his breakout season. Pena has maintained an .838 OPS across 485 plate appearances, with his previous career high being .715.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Stuck with 14th loss

Flaherty (8-14) allowed one run on three hits across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Guardians. He walked four and struck out four.

Flaherty mostly pitched well, though he struggled a bit with command and also got zero run support in a 4-0 win for the Guardians. The veteran righty has been up-and-down all season, while his 14 losses are twice as many as he had in 2024 and easily a new career high. Flaherty has at least looked fairly sharp over his last two outings, allowing just one run across 10 innings while striking out 11. He'll look to carry some momentum into his next trip to the mound, which is currently scheduled for Tuesday against this same Cleveland squad.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: On base four times

Diaz went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Diaz continued his excellent September by tallying his third consecutive multi-hit game. Across 15 games in the month, Diaz has hit .429 with a .515 on-base percentage while tallying two homers, seven RBI and 11 runs scored. He's also had an excellent season overall, posting career-high marks in home runs (24) and RBI (81).

  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Knocks in two in win

Yoshida went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Athletics.

Yoshida, who entered the game with a .618 OPS through 44 games, batted cleanup and delivered a run-scoring single in the first inning. He later hustled out an infield single with the bases loaded to plate a run in the fifth. His season numbers are underwhelming, but Yoshida is making a modest impact in September. He's gone 10-for-32 (.313) with two doubles and six RBI over 10 games this month.

  • Mike Tauchman RF | CHW

White Sox's Mike Tauchman: Slugs ninth homer

Tauchman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Orioles.

Tauchman hit his first home run since Aug. 6 and ninth of the season. He has started nine of the last 10 games since returning from general body soreness Sept. 7. He's hit only .194 in that span, though he has chipped in three RBI and five runs.

  • Rob Refsnyder RF | BOS

Red Sox's Rob Refsnyder: Homers in win

Refsnyder went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Athletics.

Refsnyder picked up a rare start against a right-hander and homered in the second inning to give Boston a 2-1 lead. The blast, which caromed off the Carlton Fisk pole in left field, was Refsnyder's ninth of the season. He's been a steady contributor in the 12 games played since returning from an oblique injury in August, which has been helpful considering the Red Sox are without Roman Anthony (oblique) and Wilyer Abreu (calf). Refsnyder has a .992 OPS with three doubles, three homers, six walks, eight RBI and six runs scored since his activation off the IL.
