Schmitt is hitting eighth and playing third base versus the Cubs on Friday.

Schmitt was originally out of the lineup for the series opener against the Cubs, but he's hitting eighth and playing third base after J.D. Davis was scratched from the lineup due to right hip tightness.

Schmitt isn't starting Friday against the Cubs, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Schmitt is just 1-for-14 with two RBI across his last four games, so he'll get a day off Friday to regroup. Brandon Crawford will take Schmitt's place at shortstop and bat ninth.

Bogaerts (wrist) is starting at shorstop Friday against the Rockies.

Bogaerts' sore left wrist has kept him out of San Diego's last four games, but it seems he's feeling good enough to suit up. The 30-year-old shortstop has been playing through the wrist issue all year and was in a cold spell at the plate prior to his recent absence, slashing .185/.214/.259 across his last 14 games.

Neto went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in a 3-1 win against the Cubs on Thursday.

Neto sat out Saturday's contest with a bruised foot, but he returned Sunday and started for the second straight game Thursday. The rookie reached base twice in the victory and also nabbed a theft in the sixth inning. Neto is slashing just .147/.286/.176 over his past 12 contests, but he continues to see near-everyday work as the Angels' primary shortstop.

Franco went 0-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base Thursday against the Twins.

Franco went hitless for the first time in his last 11 starts, though his performance was still notable because he swiped his 22nd bag of the season. It was his first stolen base attempt since returning from a minor hamstring injury June 5. In addition to his speed, Franco has also matched his highest homer total in a single season with seven across only 265 plate appearances.

Crawford went 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's victory over the Rockies.

Pinch-hitting for Casey Schmitt in the ninth inning, Crawford delivered an RBI double off Pierce Johnson to tie the game at 4-4 before scoring on Joc Pederson's two-out base hit. The 36-year-old Crawford had been stuck in a 1-for-13 slump coming into Thursday's contest while retreating to a part-time role. Overall, he's slashing just .195/.283/.354 with four homers, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored through 127 plate appearances this season.

Arcia went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in a 10-inning with over the Mets on Thursday.

The shortstop singled home a run in the third inning and came through with a game-tying solo homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth off Mets closer David Robertson. The long ball was Arcia's first since May 17, a span of 19 games. Despite the recent power drought, he's been hitting pretty well, slashing .309/.356/.368 over that stretch.

Correa went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Rays.

Correa singled in his first at-bat before crushing a leadoff homer his second time around to put the Twins up 1-0 in the top of the fourth. It was his seventh long ball of the season and his first since May 13 against the Cubs as the shortstop continues to try and gut it out while dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left heel. Correa's average now sits at .210 following the two-hit outing Thursday, and he's gone just 4-for-24 at the plate over his last six games.

Anderson isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Anderson went 1-for-5 at the plate in Game 1 and will get a rare break during the nightcap. Elvis Andrus will take Anderson's spot at shortstop and bat ninth.

Chang (wrist) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

A hamate fracture in Chang's left wrist forced him onto the injured list in late April. He played one rehab game at Double-A in late June before a setback caused him to pause his assignment. Chang resumed playing with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and will likely get a few more at-bats in before returning Monday. The 27-year-old infielder was slashing .136/.174/.341 through 47 plate appearances before getting injured.
