Perdomo extended the Diamondbacks' lead to five with a two-run homer in the third inning, though the team ultimately gave up the lead and fell in extra innings. The switch-hitting shortstop has been locked in to start August, reaching base in all 10 games this month and riding an eight-game hitting streak.

Montgomery went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 2-1 loss to Detroit.

Montgomery lifted his 10th homer of the season, and he's now tallied one extra-base hit in three of his last four games. The rookie infielder has quickly grabbed the attention of fantasy managers since being promoted to the major leagues -- Montgomery is slashing an effective .241/.311/.565 with three doubles, one triple, 26 RBI and 16 runs scored over his first 120 plate appearances. After bouncing around the bottom part of Chicago's lineup, Montgomery has hit fifth in eight of his last nine outings.

Walls (groin) isn't starting Monday's game against the Athletics, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Walls hasn't seen an at-bat since Friday due to a left groin injury. The Rays failed to comment on his availability prior to Monday's matchup, so he'll continue to be considered day-to-day until further notice.

Witt (back) will start at shortstop and bat second in Monday's game against the Nationals.

Witt sat out Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Twins due to back stiffness, but the day off was apparently all the superstar shortstop needed to move past the issue ahead of Monday's series opener. The 25-year-old is batting just .226 thus far in August, but he's still provided two home runs, two stolen bases, five RBI and five runs over that eight-game stretch.

Baez and Wenceel Perez are candidates to see more time in center field in the short term with Matt Vierling recently getting shut down with an oblique strain and Parker Meadows (quad) already on the injured list, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

While Meadows could be back within the next few weeks, the Tigers are worried that Vierling may miss the rest of the regular season. With both players out for the foreseeable future, Baez could see a larger role in center field. The veteran has primarily played the infield throughout his MLB career, though he's seen action in center for the first time in the majors this year, appearing in 37 games there to date. Baez's defensive versatility has been a big asset for him in 2025, and it appears he'll receive a slight bump in playing time as Detroit deals with some injuries.

Witt was held out of the lineup for Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Twins in 11 innings due to back stiffness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Kansas City didn't provide an immediate explanation behind Witt's absence from the lineup Sunday, so the prevailing belief was that he was exiting the starting nine for just the second time all season in a planned rest day. Instead, the back issue was apparently behind Witt getting the day off, and the Royals aren't yet certain whether the star shortstop will be ready to rejoin the lineup for Monday's series opener versus the Nationals. The Royals will wait and see how Witt feels coming out of a pregame workout before deciding on his availability leading up to the 7:40 p.m. ET opening pitch.

Swanson went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.

Swanson extended his hitting streak to four games, and he has five hits across his last two contests. The Chicago shortstop is now slashing .252/.299/.416 with 18 home runs, 55 RBI and 66 runs scored across 115 games this season, which are in line with his stats from last year. Swanson has also swiped nine bases, though that's a step back at this point after he stole 19 bases in 2024.

Montgomery went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored Sunday against the Guardians.

Montgomery was out of the lineup Saturday but returned to smack a solo home run in his first at-bat of the day Sunday. He continues to showcase a boom-or-bust approach at the plate, tallying nine home runs across his last 16 starts while also striking out multiple times on five occasions in that span. Montgomery's lack of ability to make consistent contact could ultimately catch up to him, but he's an elite source of power for the time being.

Correa went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored Sunday against the Yankees.

Correa has been on a tear since re-joining the Astros at the trade deadline. Sunday's homer marked his second across nine starts in August, and he has also chipped in six RBI and six runs scored. Impressively, Correa has five consecutive multi-hit performances and has an eight-game hit streak overall.
