Giants' Willy Adames: IL stint unlikely

Giants manager Tony Vitello said after Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Astros that the back issues Adames has been working through are unlikely to require a stint on the injured list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Adames has been working through a back injury that he aggravated during the seventh inning of Wednesday's loss. He's set to have at least two days of rest, given that the Giants are off Thursday and that he's likely to held out of the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Rockies. Christian Koss is in line to see more infield reps for as long as Adames is sidelined.

Giants' Willy Adames: Exits game with back injury

Adames was removed from Wednesday's game against the Astros in the eighth inning due to a back injury, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Adames' back appeared to tighten up on him when he attempted a double play in the seventh inning. The Giants should provide an update on Adames once he undergoes further tests on his back. Christian Koss shifted from third base to replace Adames at shortstop in the top of the eighth inning, with Buddy Kennedy entering the game at the hot corner.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Taking seat Wednesday

Tovar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Tovar will sit for the second time in the series while the Rockies go with Cole Carrigg at shortstop in the finale. Though he's posted a career-worst .580 OPS over 404 plate appearances on the season, Tovar has heated up a bit in August, slashing .310/.344/.448 through his first nine contests of the month.

  • Adael Amador 2B | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: Summoned to majors

The Rockies recalled Amador from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Amador is in the midst of his third season as a member of the Rockies' 40-man roster, but he had been playing exclusively at Triple-A in 2026 until receiving a call-up Wednesday. The 23-year-old recorded 11 home runs and 11 steals while slashing .261/.370/.432 in 393 plate appearances for Albuquerque, though that still made him a below-league-average producer with a 94 wRC+ in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. While Amador has been used solely at second base during his time in the majors over the previous two seasons, he's also dabbled at shortstop and left field at Albuquerque in 2026.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Making return from neck injury

Ortiz (neck) will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Padres, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

After recently losing Cooper Pratt (hamstring) to the injured list, the Brewers look set to avoid another blow to the left side of the infield with Ortiz making his way back into the lineup. Ortiz had missed each of the last three games due to neck tightness, which flared up when he struck out during a plate appearance Saturday. Per MLB.com, Ortiz was able to do some running Monday and then incorporated more baseball activities into his workout Tuesday, with his neck apparently checking out fine afterward. He should be in good shape to hold down a near-everyday role at either third base or shortstop while Pratt is on the shelf.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Returning to Arizona lineup

Perdomo (knee) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game versus the Rockies.

Perdomo was lifted from Monday's game and sat out Tuesday because of left knee discomfort, but he feels well enough to give it a go in Wednesday's series finale. He's sporting a .934 OPS across the past two weeks for the Diamondbacks.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Gets job done in win

De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

De La Cruz was part of a late-game, three-run rally in the eighth inning to tie the game. He had a run-scoring single as part of the rally and then hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th to produce the go-ahead run. It was his third game this month with multiple RBI, and De La Cruz has knocked in eight over eight August contests.

  • Mookie Betts SS | LAD

Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Big performance in win

Betts went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Royals.

Betts ended an 18-game power drought when he went deep in the first inning. He also came up clutch with an RBI single to tie the game in the eighth. Over his last six contests, he's gone 9-for-23 (.391) at the plate. Betts is batting .235 with a .697 OPS, 14 homers, 38 RBI, 46 runs scored, 13 doubles and one stolen base over 83 contests this season. While it's becoming increasingly clear his prime is behind him, the 33-year-old can still deliver a big game every now and then.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Picks up fifth steal

Adames went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Astros.

This was Adames' first multi-hit effort since July 12 versus the Rockies. He went 15-for-82 (.183) over the previous 23 games, though he supplied four home runs and 11 RBI in that span. The shortstop is now hitting .223 with a .696 OPS, 19 homers, five steals, 48 RBI, 58 runs scored, 25 doubles and one triple across 115 contests this season.

  • Cooper Pratt SS | MIL

Brewers' Cooper Pratt: Targeting late-August return

Pratt (hamstring) is expected to return from the injured list sometime in late August, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Pratt is making good progress in his recovery from a strained right hamstring, but he's still likely multiple weeks out from returning to the starting lineup. With Joey Ortiz (back) also dealing with an injury, David Hamilton and Ji Hwan Bae have seen an increase in playing time recently.
