  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Hitting for extra bases

Anderson went 1-for-6 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Orioles.

Anderson has started eight games since returning from suspension, and he has struck out a 39.5 percent clip in that span. Though he hasn't homered, he has balanced his lack of contact with five extra-base hits and has also scored five runs. It remains a disappointing campaign for Anderson, though as the White Sox's leadoff hitter, he could be a source of stolen bases and runs scored across the final month of the season.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Batting third Thursday

Volpe will start at shortstop and bat third in Thursday's game against the Tigers, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Aaron Judge is getting a day off, so Gleyber Torres will move up to the two hole and Volpe will occupy Torres' usual spot at No. 3 in the order. The rookie shortstop has cranked six home runs in August to push his season total to 19, but he's batting just .216.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Out of lineup again

Baez is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Yankees.

Baez isn't dealing with any known injury, but he'll hit the bench for a second straight game after he had started each of the previous five contests. Zack Short will handle shortstop for the Tigers.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Continues standout campaign

Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday in a 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Seager hit the Rangers' lone long ball in the contest, smacking a 420-foot solo shot to center field in the fourth inning. The shortstop added a single to finish with his sixth multi-hit performance over his past 10 games. At this point, Seager getting on base is almost an expectation -- his .346 batting average and .411 OBP would lead the American League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. The star shortstop has added 25 home runs, 35 doubles and 80 RBI over 90 contests.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Provides only run in loss

Witt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Pirates.

Witt sputtered with just four hits over his last six games in August, but it was still a productive month. He hit .324 (36-for-111) with nine homers, 22 RBI and nine stolen bases over 27 contests. The shortstop is up to 27 long balls, 38 steals, 82 RBI, 75 runs scored and a .276/.317/.501 slash line through 132 games this season. He'll have plenty of momentum heading to September as he looks to wrap up a highly successful second season.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Absent from lineup

Baez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Baez had started each of the last five contests after missing a couple games with an illness. Zach McKinstry will man shortstop Wednesday.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Moves to bench Wednesday

Allen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Aledmys Diaz will pick up the start at shortstop in the series finale while Allen rests after starting the past two days. Unless the Athletics call upon Allen for a pinch-hitting appearance Wednesday, he'll finish August with a .271/.311/.414 slash line over 23 games.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Taking seat Wednesday

Story is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Astros, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Story had been in the lineup for each of the previous five games but will begin Wednesday's matinee on the bench. Ceddanne Rafaela is handling shortstop for the Red Sox.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Belts 19th homer

Volpe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 victory against Detroit.

Volpe struck out in each of his first three plate appearances before hammering a solo shot to left field in the ninth inning. The long ball was his fifth over his past 16 contests, a span during which he's slashing .250/.311/.589 with 13 RBI. Volpe is up to 19 homers on the campaign and has already reached 20 thefts. He's one long ball away from becoming the first rookie in Yankees history to put up a 20-20 season.

  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Nabs third straight start

Clement will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

He'll man shortstop for the third game in a row after going 2-for-7 at the dish between the first two contests of the series with Washington. The Blue Jays seem content to go with Clement as their primary option at shortstop until Bo Bichette (quadricep) is cleared to return from the 10-day injured list.
