The Angels promoted Bremner from High-A Tri-City to Double-A Rocket City on Tuesday.

Bremner will make his Double-A debut Saturday while Rocket City expands its rotation to six men as the season winds down. The 22-year-old righty submitted a 4.28 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB over 48.1 innings in 14 starts at Tri-City to earn the bump up to Double-A.

Mize will start Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

After acquiring Mize from the Tigers on Monday in a four-player deal, the Padres will waste little time breaking the right-hander into the rotation. Mize had been enjoying a career-best season with Detroit, posting a 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 85:19 K:BB while limiting opposing hitters to a .213 average over 86.2 innings.

Painter was removed from Wednesday's game against the Nationals due to left hamstring tightness, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out four before departing.

Painter had tossed 63 pitches over four innings before the hamstring injury forced him out of the game prematurely. He's scheduled to undergo further evaluation Thursday, per March, but the Phillies are optimistic that the right-hander avoided a serious injury.

Imanaga (8-9) allowed one run on eight hits across five innings to earn the win in Wednesday's 7-6 victory over the Dodgers. He had no walks and struck out six.

Imanaga was challenged by a stout Los Angeles lineup, but he managed to scatter his eight hits allowed and mostly stay out of trouble. The only damage against the lefty came on a Shohei Ohtani leadoff home run. Imanaga continued his strong recent play, as he's allowed no more than two earned runs in any of his last five starts, and he's posted a 25:3 K:BB across 29.2 innings during that span. He'll carry a solid 3.60 ERA and 1.09 WHIP into his next appearance, which is currently scheduled to come next Wednesday on the road against another tough lineup in Washington.

Gomber signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Wednesday, Emily Waldon of Baseball America reports.

Gomber was cut loose by Atlanta on Monday, and he'll now attempt to carve out a role for himself in the Tigers organization. The 32-year-old has posted a 6.01 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 82.1 Triple-A innings this season and will presumably slot in as organizational depth at Toledo.

Verlander (hamstring/hip) threw off the front of the bullpen mound Wednesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Verlander has yet to log a true bullpen session since suffering a setback during his last mound session June 17, but Wednesday's round of throwing still marks progress from playing catch. It's unclear how far he is from getting back to throwing traditional bullpen sessions, but he'll likely have to do so within the next couple of weeks to have a chance to build up his workload and make a few more starts in what will be his final season in Major League Baseball.

Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that he expects Schmidt (elbow/forearm) to play catch Thursday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Schmidt's live batting practice session Tuesday was cut short due to cramping in his forearm, but the issue doesn't seem to be serious enough to warrant pausing his throwing program entirely. Assuming he gets through Thursday's round of catch without any issues, he'll throw a bullpen session over the weekend and could resume facing live hitters shortly afterward.

Painter will start Wednesday's game against the Nationals in Philadelphia.

The Phillies addressed their lineup and bullpen with the additions of second baseman Luis Arraez, right-hander Caleb Kilian and left-hander Brooks Raley at the trade deadline, but they stood pat with their rotation. As a result, Painter will end up sticking around for another turn as the Phillies' fifth starter after he had a successful showing last weekend following his call-up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. For just the third time in 15 big-league outings, Painter hit six innings in Friday's loss to the Orioles, giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six.

May is expected to make his first start for the Brewers on Thursday against the Pirates in Milwaukee, Sophia Minnaert of Brewers.tv reports.

Milwaukee acquired May and left-hander JoJo Romero (appendectomy) from St. Louis on Monday in exchange for outfielders Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale. During his time in St. Louis, May posted a 5-7 record, 4.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 106:35 K:BB over 109 innings across 21 starts.

Manager Derek Shelton said Wednesday that Ryan is scheduled to undergo further evaluation for a lower-body injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Shelton said that Ryan's injury has left him physically unable to replicate his delivery, which helps to explain why the 30-year-old has given up 16 earned runs in just 15.1 innings since the All-Star break. It remains unclear what exactly he's dealing with, but his next start -- lined up for Sunday against the Brewers -- is in jeopardy as the team waits for a diagnosis.
