Luis Gil SP | NYY
Yankees' Luis Gil: Locked in for debut Sunday
Gil (lat) is on track to return from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Marlins in Miami, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone previously said Tuesday that Gil was on track to make his 2025 MLB debut this weekend if he made it out of his final rehab start without issue, and the right-hander was able to do just that. During his fourth rehab appearance Tuesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Gil built up to 75 pitches while striking out seven batters and yielding one earned run on three hits and one walk. The Yankees aren't likely to push Gil far past the 90-pitch mark Sunday, but the reigning American League Rookie of the Year should be capable of working deep enough into the start to qualify for a win. Gil has been on the shelf all season after he was diagnosed with a high-grade right lat strain in early March.

Jack Kochanowicz SP | LAA
Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Picking up another start
Kochanowicz is slated to start Sunday's game against the White Sox in Anaheim.
Kochanowicz had an unceremonious return to the Los Angeles rotation after being called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, taking a loss to the Rangers after giving up two unearned runs on one hit and a season-high six walks over 4.2 innings. Though he now owns an ugly 5.75 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 98.2 innings with the big club this season, Kochanowicz will get at least one more chance to prove that he's worthy of a spot in the Angels rotation.

Emmet Sheehan SP | LAD
Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Fans five in long relief
Sheehan (2-2) took the loss against the Reds on Wednesday, allowing three unearned runs on one hit and three walks while striking out five batters over 3.2 innings.
Shohei Ohtani (lower body) started and completed three innings, and after Anthony Banda took over for one frame, Sheehan entered in the fifth. The right-hander breezed through three scoreless innings before a pair of walks got him into trouble in the eighth. Sheehan almost got out of the inning, but Andy Pages dropped a foul ball that could have been the third out, and Cincinnati went on to score three times. Despite taking the loss, Sheehan impressed, racking up 15 whiffs on his 72 pitches and notching five punchouts. The Dodgers are still figuring out their rotation with Blake Snell (shoulder) set to return Saturday, but that may not keep Sheehan from working as a starter moving forward, as the team is using a six-man rotation and Dustin May is headed to the bullpen, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

Henry Baez SP | ATH
Athletics' Henry Baez: Flipped to Athletics
Baez was traded rom the Padres to the Athletics on Thursday along with Leo De Vries, Braden Nett and Eduarniel Nunez in exchange for Mason Miller and JP Sears, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Baez is already on the 40-man roster and has never pitched above Double-A, but he has a chance to be a back-end starter for the Athletics as early as next year. The 22-year-old righty has a 1.96 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 89:31 K:BB in 96.2 innings across 20 starts at Double-A this year. Baez doesn't have any plus pitches, and he may not even have any above-average pitches, so his fantasy upside is limited.

Braden Nett SP | ATH
Athletics' Braden Nett: Heads to A's in Miller deal
Nett was traded rom the Padres to the Athletics on Thursday along with Leo De Vries, Henry Baez and Eduarniel Nunez in exchange for Mason Miller and JP Sears, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Nett has power stuff and has always missed bats at a high clip, but his control has typically been shaky. He had his best stretch as a pro in May and June, when he logged a 1.94 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 49:14 K:BB in 41.2 innings, although he walked nine in 10 innings over his next three starts. The 23-year-old righty has logged 18 total starts at Double-A in his career, so he could get a taste of Triple-A before the end of the year. If Nett is able to limit the walks, he could spend time next year in the Athletics' rotation.

JP Sears SP | SD
Padres' JP Sears: Traded to Padres
The Padres acquired Sears and Mason Miller from the Athletics on Thursday in exchange for Leo De Vries and three pitchers, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Sears has posted a 4.95 ERA and 97:29 K:BB over 111 innings covering 22 starts this season for the Athletics and comes with team control through the 2028 campaign. With Sears supplementing their rotation, the Padres could now be more motivated to trade Dylan Cease to enhance their roster elsewhere.

Brandon Young SP | BAL
Orioles' Brandon Young: Back in big leagues
The Orioles recalled Young from Double-A Chesapeake on Thursday.
Baltimore returned Young to the minors Wednesday, one day after he made a six-inning spot start as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays. Despite turning in a quality start, Young still holds a 6.63 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 36.2 innings in the majors this season, but he could nonetheless be in line for additional turns through the Baltimore rotation after he was recalled from Double-A to replace Zach Eflin (back), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Eflin's next start was scheduled to come up either Sunday versus the Cubs or Monday versus the Phillies, and the Orioles could look to either Young or rehabbing left-hander Cade Povich (hip) to fill in for the righty.

Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Orioles' Zach Eflin: Back on IL with back issue
The Orioles placed Eflin on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to low-back discomfort.
Eflin will hit the shelf for the third time this season and for the second time in just over a month due to continued back problems. After being reinstated last week, Eflin made just two starts for the Orioles before suffering an apparent setback. Baltimore recalled right-hander Brandon Young from Double-A Chesapeake in a corresponding move, and he or the rehabbing Cade Povich (hip) could be called upon to replace Eflin in the rotation the next time his turn comes up.

Zebby Matthews P | MIN
Twins' Zebby Matthews: Hit hard in loss to BoSox
Matthews (2-3) took the loss in Wednesday's 13-1 rout at the hands of the Red Sox, coughing up five runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.
The 25-year-old right-hander once again showed great control without much command in the zone, firing 52 of 74 pitches for strikes but watching half the hits he allowed go for extra bases, including a solo shot by Trevor Story in the second inning. Matthews has an impressive 17:1 K:BB over three starts and 14.1 innings since the All-Star break, but it comes with a 6.28 ERA that isn't just a product of bad luck. He'll try to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Detroit.

Ben Brown SP | CHC
Cubs' Ben Brown: Picking up another start
Brown is listed as the Cubs' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Orioles at Wrigley Field.
Brown will make his second straight turn through the Chicago rotation after he delivered an impressive start his last time out Sunday, when he earned a win while limiting the White Sox to one earned run on three hits and no walks over five innings. Though most of his underlying ratios suggest that he's pitched far better than the 6.22 ERA he's posted over 88.1 innings in the majors this season, Brown could find himself back in the bullpen or at Triple-A Iowa following Saturday's start, regardless of how he performs. The Cubs acquired Michael Soroka from the Nationals on Wednesday, and he's expected to replace Brown at the back end of the rotation.
